I just wanted to let you know I had a great time on Boracay and Janet and the team at your Straw Hat Inn were VERY, VERY friendly and accommodating. All the best to you and your family for continued success in 2005.  Paul

Just arrived from Bora yesterday. Me and my girlfriend stayed in Dave's Straw Hat Inn in Station 3. Grabe, ang ganda ng cottages nila at napakababait ng staff. Sobrang linis at asikasong-asikaso ka.

Discounted price pa 'pag Pinoys!

 Thu February 24 02:58:39 2005 UTC  Cool! i just booked a room for 4 at Dave's Straw Hat. Good to know someone's been there and liked it.

I had a friend who was in boracay last weekend and was walking around the place looking for a room for me and my friends. He said Dave's was the most decent room within our budget.

Hi Im back at work today and our trip to Hong Kong was great as well. We will keep a beautiful souvenir of Boracay and of the hotel in particular. Thank you for your kindness : we really appreciated it and if we have the chance to come back, we will of course stay with you. We already gave your address to our friends in HK. Here are a few photo I took. Hello to Janet and Keep it easy ! Tristan

on March 21 00:38:24 2005 UTC i've stayed at dave's just two weeks ago and the owners  are nice people. i did pay a deposit which my friend gave to them when he went to boracay the week before i did. i was assured though that if i didn't like the place when i got there, i could just stay for the nights that i paid and look for other accomodation. i did stay there the rest of the week though. it would have been a hassle to change places. if you text them when you arrive at caticlan terminal, they will meet you at boat station 3.

Hi We really enjoyed our stay at "Daves Straw Hat Inn" and have already recommended it to several friends.  We have been to Boracay over twenty times  and have stayed at numerous resorts.  The rooms at your resort are some of the best on the island and a lot nicer than at some of the very pricey resorts!  Your welcome drinks - banana shakes -were delicious ,especially compared to the sickly sweet cordial stuff most resorts provide (if they even give you a welcome drink! )The  location is great- only about a minute's walk to the beach and very quiet and peaceful.  Still it is only a few minutes to the shops and night life. The cottages are just the right blend of modern and tropical  (ie  tropical design but with leak-proof roofs and modern conveniences)and are one of the few places on Boracay (including very expensive places) that have properly tiled modern bathrooms with good showers.  We liked having the option of whether or not we wanted to pay extra for air-conditioning or just use the fan in the room.  Next time we will book one of the super-deluxe  cottages as they are really beautiful.  Thank you for the personal touch which made our stay there extra special.  We look forward to staying with you again. Best regards, Julia and Dave

Had a great time. Wonderful staff that was attentive to my needs. The best vacation I have had as I like to get away from the hectic civilization we have created for ourselves in America, so Boracay was perfect. Louis

=================================================

blue_mercado : We had a blast at the place! : if only for the mango shakes, i will definitely come back  hopefully this april, . janet was soooo great, even played frisbee with us.

=================================================

Janet, Thank you for your mail. Yes, our transition from Boracay went well, no hitches at all. Gina and I would like to thank you for a memorable visit. Your accommodation is excellent. Clean & comfortable, and your staff very friendly and helpful. We will certainly stay there again if at some time in the future we decide to make the trip again. We would like to wish you well for the future, but with accommodation like yours, we feel certain you will only go from strength to strength. And we will certainly let others know how good your place is. Take care and all the best, Phil & Gina.

Dave's Straw Hat Inn: "Home, sweet home" April 27, 2005:  jcunning@guamcell.net, Agana, Guam jcunning@guamcell.net, Agana, Guam

There may be a lot of resorts on Boracay, but there's only one Dave's. I think I speak for all the divers in our group that made the trek from Guam to Boracay when I say that no other place on the island could have taken better and more personal care of us than the folks at Dave's did.
"Ate" Janeti, is Dave's GM Extraordinaire.  "Ate" is the Tagalog word for sister, which is what Janet insists the staff call her, as opposed to "Boss" or "Mom." She really treats her staff like family, which helps us guests to feel like part of the family as well. Janet went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of,
oth at Dave's and Calypso Diving. After 6 wonderful days, we were all reluctant to return to Guam. Which is why we're planning on going back in the middle part of August for some more of that Straw Hat Inn hospitality. As a guy who has been around the world and stayed at 5 star hotels and exotic resorts, including Blakes in London, I would have to put Dave's in my top 5 all-time best list for making me feel right at home. I can't wait to get back there.

=================================================

Hi Janet,   I just wanted to thank you guys for making my stay so enjoyable back in April. I look forward to staying with you guys again.   Thanks again for everything.  You have and run a first class operation.  I will certainly be back and tell my friends. Kurtis Alameda, California

Daves Straw Hat Inn: Budget Cottages Written sirenna on February 27, 2005. Very reasonably priced accomodation at a very high standard. Rooms are complete with hot and cold water, telephone, private security box, aircon or fan. The Inn offers free use of their outdoor cooking facilities. There is also internet access. Although it's not actually situated on the beach front, it's less than a minute's walk away. The cottages are attractive,and set in a nice garden. Comparison: less expensive than average Address: Angol, White Beach Phone: 00 - 63-36-288-5465

Hello Janet, my name is Natasha. I stayed with you in April, it was such a wonderful stay I was so sad to leave! The staff was wonderful especially Larry and Janet! As I recall Larry waited over an hour in the heat to pick me up so I wouldn't get lost. Janet- you were so helpful with everything and concerned with my safety. Thank you thank you for your hospitality and warmth hope to see you soon Natasha

Dave Straw Hat Inn is highly recommended! With the warm hospitality of the staff and great service and accommodation ,not to mention their cheap room rates, there is nothing more you can ask for! The atmosphere is serene, just a perfect place to relax after the long day at the beach. The rooms are very neat and clean. Maintaining staffs are trustworthy, you can leave any of your valuable things inside the room worry-free! The place is really what you can call "Your Home when you're Away From Home" It was my first time to visit Boracay and Strawhatinn contributed alot to make my vacation there truly remarkable!  Sharon and Mayi

Dave's Straw Hat Inn: "Peaceful & Quiet, Clean & New Rooms"  July 6, 2005:  A TripAdvisor Member, NYC, NY

We spent just 2 days in this place because of time constraint, our vacation time was limited, but we really liked this place. It was quiet & peaceful day & night. Away from the bustling sounds of the seaside/seashore...yet just a few minutes walk brings you to the boracay sceneries. People here are very hospitable, accommodating & respectful. Hey! we really enjoyed breakfast (pancake with mango slices). We will surely visit this place, yes, we would love to come back here again! The room we stayed was cozy & elegant...we were honeymooners, and this is a perfect place. Thanks to Larry & the ladies here...we really felt safe there. Dr. & Mrs T.

I just recently returned from Daves straw hat inn, July 19-28, 2005.the rooms were great, the staff friendly. Rates were the best around. Janet makes you feel like family in a short time. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for that quiet pace, just minutes from the beach. Thanks Janet............Wayne Staack..............July,2005

"Hi Janet and everyone at Dave's Straw Hat Inn! We had the best vacation ever at Boracay!  We still look at our photos and sigh over our happy memories.  It's been hard to come back to Japan, with the hot and humid weather, and no tropical beach to escape to.  Thanks so much for taking such good care of us!  We hope everyone over there is doing well! We sincerely had an amazing vacation and hope the best for your business!"Sincerely, Vivian and Shigeki.........August, 2005

Hello Janet, we didn't have the opportunity to tell you how good was our stay at Dave's Straw ... we 4 enjoyed so much the room, the service and your people there. Moreover, Boracay is a wonderful island and we had a great time there..Elodie, August 05.

"Beautiful Inn, Friendly Staff" Sep 27, 2005:  A TripAdvisor Member, Hiroshima After staying at Dave's Straw Hat Inn I entirely agree with all of the positive reviews. The rooms were clean and beautifully decorated. The meals were delicious and much better value than at local restaurants. The staff went out of their way to offer assistance. One of Boracay's best kept secrets.

=================================================

"Wonderful place to stay" Sep 30, 2005 My fiance and I stayed at Dave's Straw Hat Inn at Boracay for 4 nights recently, loved the staff, clean rooms (very clean), great air-con, wonderful food available, not the most comfortable beds though, Dave even gives free counseling advise (if he likes you). There are much fancier places to stay and closer to the beach, but nowhere will you get the same service as Dave's in my opinion Klee Rogers, Alberta, Canada

"Get more than you bargained for!" Oct 2, 2005:  A TripAdvisor Member, Cape Town, South Africa First impression: Wow, amazing service. The called us on the day of arrival and gave us directions again as well as informing as that a representative of the Inn will be there to welcome and assist us. The cottage: CLEAN! That is the first thing that struck me. The beautiful white tiles on the floor and soft white curtains. Double bed with comfortable mattress. Side table with a lamp. TV is assembled in the corner of the room. There is a safe for you to use inside the closet as well. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and wash basin. There were little soaps and fresh clean towels as well. This was a standard cottage in case you were wondering. Outside we had our own little patio with two chairs. This place comes with a bargain price and you definitely get more than you expect. The owners of the place are also very lovely and welcoming. There is no need to go stay at a pricey hotel.

  "A gem of a place" January, 2006 We're just back from a fabulous stay at Dave's and are so glad we found it on tripadvisor. Agree with all the positive reviews.We felt so welcome there, and our cottage was comfortable and clean, and the beach was just down the path. For a very reasonable rate, we had a quiet, comfortable and spotlessly clean room, with a telephone, a colour TV with 85 channels, a fridge, a new bathroom (small but adequate and again spotlessly clean).We also stayed at Fridays for four times the price, but we didn't have four times the quality of room or warmth of welcome there. Trip Advisor Comment.

=================================================

"Great Pancakes!!" Jan 3, 2006 I just got back from staying at Dave's. I was there for New Years. It was excellent. This was my second time staying with them. I stayed there during the summer for a week. The hospitality was excellent. They really do make you feel like family there, especially if you are traveling by yourself. They invited me to have New Year's dinner with them, which was great. As a female traveler, it is great to find a place that is concerned for your safety. They have a night man that is there when you stroll in at the wee hours of the morning to give you your key. I truly enjoy my time at Dave's. It is safe, clean, and cozy. Also the banana pancakes are delicious!! Trip Advisor Comment.

=================================================

"A Straw Hat Home" Jan 6, 2006 I stayed at Dave's Straw Hat Inn for two weeks but could have easily been there for longer. It was so nice to have a place where I could just drop my stuff and stretch out - especially after all the traveling. The rooms are very clean and comfortable - and the inn is at a nice, quiet part of the island. Dave and his family really make you feel at home (and if there is anything you need or want - just ask them). Next time I am in the Philippines, I will definitely stop at Dave's (and you should too!). Trip Advisor Comment.

We just come back to Sweden, lot`s of snow and cold weather. One month in PH goes so quick and we miss Boracay and your place already. We been in Boracay many times before but your place is the best we ever stayed in. Very personal, friendly and lovely staff. When we come back we want to stay in your place again. We wish you all the best! Fam Villas Jonsson, Fam Johansson, January, 2006

"Wonderful memories of Boracay/Daves Straw Hat Inn" Jan 17, 2006:We just returned home from a wonderful trip to Boracay. Our 7 night stay at Daves Straw Hat Inn was very good and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay that has a nice charm about it. I must compliment their staff for being very friendly and making us feel at home. They make a great mango shake, the best I had on the island. thank you for a great vacation. John M.

=================================================

Janet, Felma and I had a wonderful time in Boracay and enjoyed our stay at Daves Straw Hat Inn. I am convinced that your Inn is the best hotel value on the island, and you have the best mango shakes that I have ever had.Thanks to you and your great staff for a wonderful vacation. We hope to visit again in May '06. Regards, John M.

"Thank you Dave, Janet and all the staff!!" Jan 22, 2006:  klikitykev@yahoo.co.uk, japan My wife and I have recently returned to Japan after 2 weeks on Boracay which was great!! We were pretty much disorganized when it came to booking in advance, so we only had one night at Dave's but we have to say that we have never met a kinder couple who really go the extra distance for their guests. You saved our holiday Dave, Janet and Jenny!! Thank you so much.. Aside from the outstanding service, their modern cottages are very reasonable (one of the few places not to jack the prices up sky high for the peak), clean and coem with TV, fridge, safe and everything you need.. breakfasts are a very good price and fill you with energy for the day!  We highly recommend staying at Dave's, for the quiet location, but within easy walking distance of the day and nightlife! Next time we are booking directly and it's Dave's all the way.. Thanks again, Kevin and Yukie

"THE place to stay on Boracay"  Jan 23, 2006:   Rudolfstetten, Aargau, Switzerland I have been at Dave's Straw Hat Inn for approx. 3 weeks this january 2006. It was my 4th time on Boracay, but the 1st time at Dave's. It was just lovely. Dave, Janet, Javid, the whole staff and last but not least Fregles (the dog), all of them are very friendly and helpful. I really had a great time. Dave's Straw Hat Inn ist THE place to stay on Boracay. I'll go back. Claus from Switzerland

We would both like to say big thanks to you and all your staff for helping to make our stay Boracay amazing. I will recommend Dave's straw hat inn to anyone visiting Boracay. Thanks again Oli and Miffy, February, 2006

=================================================

Thanks so much for everything. I really think your place is heaven-sent. It's obvious you love what you're doing and i hope you will continue to offer your place to boracay guests for as long as possible. you are naturally caring, warm and accommodating hosts. I totally agree - dave's offers the best value peso-for-peso but the warmth and simple ways you make your guests feel special and welcome (not business) are priceless of course. When we do go back to boracay, we'll be back at dave's as well. In the meantime, I want others to experience boracay and your place too so I'll definitely recommend it to our family and friends. Warm regards, Buddy and Elna February, 2006

"Best in Boracay!" Feb 7, 2006 This place was the perfect home away from home! David and Janet and their wonderful staff made our stay the best 5 nights we had on our vacation to the Philippines. We were given help with everything we needed from working out funds to organiazing trips to recommindations for restaurants....This place is just a very, very short walk off of the beach. Our room was a perfect size and very clean during our entire stay on the island. Their location off of Boat Station #3 is a perfect location for accessing everything. Every morning we woke up to the best breakfast for an outstanding price! The staff were always very friendly and helpful with anything we needed. We evene had help carrying our luggage to Boat Station #3 when we left at 5:00 in the morning.I would highly recommend this place for numerous reasons to anyone traveling to Boracay. If you aren't a yuppie who needs to stay in a 5 star resort, this is the perfect little, comforable location and rooms with service that I would consider above that of a 5 star resort!

=================================================

"Brillant Dave's Straw Hat Inn" Feb 8, 2006 The rooms are nice and clean, the staff are very freindly and helpfull and you can even get a decent brew in the morning. I wouldn't stay anywhere else on Boracay

=================================================

our facility was first class all the way.I will have many things to tell my friends when I get back to Saudi Arabia next week.I have many Filipino friends I work with and will be mentioning what a class act you and Janet are running there. All the best, Joe Macnab, February, 2006

=================================================

Janet, thanks for your wonderful kindness and help. We will recommend your place to anyone who talks of going to Boracay. Mike and Emma February, 2006

=================================================

Our stay in Boracay was fantastic because of you! You really made our visit wonderful due to your kindness and that of your lovely staff. You really have great staff. Thank you for all your courtesies and everything you did for us. I really appreciate your taking good care of Pamela when she was ill and having your staff bring her to the hospital and even recommending that she go in the first place. You are such a caring and wonderful person!  You have my vote as "Hotelier of the Year" for all your extra care and concern for us. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. Roberta, February, 2006

=================================================

"Best Place on Boracay" Feb 21, 2006 I stayed at Dave's Straw Hat Inn for 4 nights in Feb. 2006. This inn is first class and the owner and his wife were helpful and classy. If you have ever stayed at a B&B in Europe you will know what I mean when I say this is the place best on Boracay for your money. The rooms were large and very clean and the food they served was excellent. This place is relatively new and the landscaping surrounding the cottages was immaculate and attractive. Only a minute walk from the beach the inn provided services you would only expect from one of the high-end resorts. I will definitely be returning! A TripAdvisor Member, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

=================================================

"Soo loved this place"  Feb 22, 2006 I only have good things to say about DAVES! This place is probably THE BEST budget accommodation in Boracay. It exceeded all of our expectation! Everything was spic and span! The rooms are perfect, we've got cable, fridge, locker, fan, ac..you could not ask for more, really...rooms also come with a little veranda...what's more, you could even rent a dvd player if you fancy watching some movies...and for those of you who need to be constantly surfing the net...they've got wireless, as well! The staff are ever so helpful and wonderful! Always smiling and ready to help you with anything. Best of all ready with loads of suggestions of what to do (and not to do) in the island. The place is highly recommended...we will definitely be coming back very soon...A TripAdvisor Member, Great Britain

=================================================

Traumhaft !!!

Alfred & Cheryl, February, 2006

=================================================

"A Very Pleasant Experience"  Feb 25, 2006  I stayed at Dave's for 3 days in Feb 2006.. They went (miles) out of their way to make my stay a really pleasant one, and when you stay there you really feel "taken care of"... They'll definitely be on my short list when I go back!! A TripAdvisor Member, Shanghai

=================================================

"The Highlight of Boracay!"  Feb 28, 2006 My fiancee and I stayed at Dave's for 3 nights, including Valentine's Day and it was absolutely wonderful. The room was really nice, the ambience of the straw huts was fun, and it was surprisingly quiet and private. The food was sooo good that we ended up eating 5 of the 6 meals at Dave's.  Janet were 100% customer service and friendly advice, and aided me greatly in setting up my room for a Valentine's Day surprise and having a seafood barbecue outside my hut for the two of us. Even the staff members who brought us food and escorted us to and from the resort were extra-friendly and accommodating. If you're reluctant to stay at Dave's because the more-expensive alternatives may offer more amenities, consider this....they will do whatever they can to provide you with whatever you need that may not necessarily be standard at one of the "non-premier" resorts. If you want a special candlelight dinner, they can do it. If you want to be set up on an Island Hopping tour, they can do it. If you want a masseuse or a DVD player with movies, they can do it. They even had a travel agent book me a hotel in Manila for my return! So basically, there's no reason not to stay at Dave's. Have fun, and thanks again Janet!! A TripAdvisor Member, Binghamton, NY

=================================================

"Couldn't have asked for anything more" Mar 2, 2006:  Dave managed to squeeze us in after an agency messed up our booking (moral of the story: book direct with Dave) with a great rate. The rooms are clean, have quiet air conditioning, safe, TV, and a verandah. Service is out of this world - Dave's staff are great. This is a small complex, a few steps away from the beach at the southern end of the island, but is highly recommended. Try the mango ice tea! A TripAdvisor Member, Trowbridge, UK

Thanks for all your Hospitality. Jenny, Janet, yourself and the rest of your staff were all very helpful and friendly. I hope that were able to visit again before we head back to Canada. Thanks again Brett and Jaime, March, 2006

=================================================We had a great time staying with you. Your place is the best! Rooms are cosy, clean and have all the basics and a bit more. We know what we are talking about because in 9 days we stayed at 4 resorts, some of them more than double your price and they didnt even have hot water, a refrigerator or safe. If you're looking for something really quiet and private with a killer staff then the only place I would go is Dave's Straw Hat Inn. I've done a lot of traveling and Dave and Janet are a couple of the nicest and most accomodating hotel owners I've met. Their place is really nice and just a 30 second walk from the action of the beach. Travis, March, 2006

================================================= We really had a great time in Boracay. And thanks to you and your wonderful staff, our trip was more memorable and fun. Please send my warmest regards to ATE Jen and the rest of the gang. Too bad we were not able to meet Janet. Hopefully, we'll meet her the next time we go there. Again, thank you so much for making our Boracay trip an unforgettable and special one. I already miss your refreshing mango iced tea...Cheers, Ronnie March, 2006

Thank so much for your friendly and professional manor. We loved staying with you, Dave's straw hat inn is brilliant tucked away in its own little world. You have everything needed, for your visitors. Having Ed meet us at Caticlan was brilliant, that took alot of pressure off us. Your staff are a credit to you. Jenny, Ed  Dean and the girls not forgetting Freckles. We felt very special by the way they treated us. With their lovely smiley faces every day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if we decide to visit again we will us your Inn again. We will recommend you to all our friends and family. Adele & Lindsay, March, 2006.

"Daves, 100% recommended!" what we can say, we really had a great time during our entire stay here are dave's! though its too short that is why we promised to go back =)  we really cant put into words how happy/satisfied are we with regard to their overall service. all the people there are very warm and accomodating, the rooms are very nice and well taken care of. you will not imagine that you will get this kind of service with a very cheap price they offer. two thumbs up! you get every peso you paid for, or even more.. great job for Janet and the rest of the people behind the resort.. =)  Mar 24, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, Philippines

Being to Boracay is really an overwhelming experience and was made memorable with our stay in your place.. Thanks to Janet and the staff (along with Freckles) for giving me and my sister a very warm welcome.. It is as if we found a second home in Boracay. Our stay in Dave's Straw Hat Inn will definitely make me come back to Boracay, hopefully sooner (fingers crossed).As soon as we got home last night, we couldn't stop telling our parents about how your great your place is.. I hope to come back to Boracay with my parents and grandparents.. =) I miss Boracay **sigh**

What a wonderful bit of paradise half way around the world.  It was so amazingly fun and your great accommodations and friendly personal relationships with all of us helped make our stay memorable.   Tell all of your staff that we totally enjoyed their eager hellos, helpful manner and truly genuine concern for our happy stay.    We also appreciated the extreme cleanliness and we always saw your staff doing one more thing to keep it that way.  Thanks for making Jacob and Rose's wedding truly a great memory for us. It was fun for us to have almost all of our children present to experience this with  us.  Enjoying this touch of heaven on earth  truly brings our family even closer together. Thanks again.  Judy and Steve Conway, April, 2006

"the best of boracay" Cost benefit analysis is used in every way in todays society by everyone. when it is used to select a place to stay on boracay there is only one answer....dave's strawhat. the cost is most reasonable and the service is the most anyone could possibly need. the staff are efficient, professional, friendly and you can tell they are genuinely happy that you are there. it is like being with family , warm and caring. the facilities are modern, yet cozy and protective. all in all, i could never stay anywhere else, ever. if you are going to boracay, call janet. you will be glad you did ! "We'll Be Back" We stayed at Dave's a few weeks ago, and had a wonderful time. Personally, we liked the location at the quiet part of the beach away from the crowds. Dave's isn't marketing itself as a beachfront resort,and at that price we didn't mind the short walk down an alleyway. The rooms and general area are very clean, and any requests and needs we had were catered for. We felt quite safe and comfortable there, and will definately be returning in future. Thanks to all the staff for a great stay in Boracay. Apr 7, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, Hong Kong

"Recommend staying here..." Had read good reviews of this place and they're all true. Walked in and had to wake up the receptionist poor thing, but she organised 2 rooms for us on the spot. We had to wait a bit as the people occupying the room were checking out, but we relaxed and had breakfast there while we waited. The rooms were very clean and good value for money. They were very friendly and always chatted with us and gave us suggestions on where we should venture of to. The place was so cosy, at night they would light candles which really gave it a nice feel. I also found, because we were staying at Boat Station 3, we were able to get a good nights sleep as most of the bars and restaurants were located in Boat Station 2 (which was a stroll away) so we did not get the loud music. If I ever go back to Boracay I would definitely stay here again. Apr 18, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, Sydney, Australia

 "Nice Resort" Just a positive note on Daves, great place to stay=very clean and nice gardens. If you like it nice and peaceful, this is the place to stay .IT may not b beachfront but its only a short stroll from the beach. Wouldnt hesitate to stay again. Pleasant surroundings, nice food and not over priced. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Rooms are clean. I will return without a doubt. Apr 21, 2006:  BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

"Viva Boracay !!!.... Viva Dave's Straw Hat Inn!!!....We will be back!!!!......"We just came from Boracay and stayed Dave's Straw Hat Inn for 3 nights and 3 days, it was a nice place to stay , a very clean place and so neat....the price was very reasonable too, we had fun in boracay and our stay for the first time made us plan to come over , over and over again in the near future when time permits. Daves Straw Inn , Janet and staff was so accomodating and friendly...It was so kind of Janet and Staff to pick as up in station 3 at almost 1am , we never forget it, thanks guys......if you did not pick us up we will surely get lost coz we were tired that time......sorry po hehehehehe.....Daves Straw Hat Inn is GREAT!!! as i see, coz its Janet wife if David the owners put her time and personal touch in the place............Dave's Straw Hat Inn, have a simple menu for foods but the foods was great, i love the mango shake, it tickles me, yum yum yum hhhmmmm.............Thank You Dave's Straw Hat Inn, for making our Boracay experience memorable.... "Real Philippines Experience" Dave's Straw Hat Inn offers visitors a tranquil and relaxing place to stay on Boracay Island. As others have observed, the staff are very helpful and welcoming. For example, a staffer met us at the airport and brought us to the island. This was a big help and made things very easy for us. One evening, the staff cooked fresh prawns we had bought and set out a cozy table for us, complete with candlelight. The Inn is tastefully designed in traditional Philippine style and is thus a pleasant counterpoint to the island's commercial side. The beach is a short walk away and across from small restaurants which will bring drinks to people relaxing on deck chairs. Overall, we were very happy to stay at Dave's Straw Hat Inn and recommend it to people who are looking for authenticity, hospitality, quiet, and value during their Boracay vacation. "Best staff and resort on the Island" We just got back from Boracay for the 4th time and this had to be the best trip yet. We stayed at Dave's and were more than happy with the trip. The rooms are great. I have stayed at many of the top rated resorts in Boracay but they do not even compair to Dave's. The location is great very peaceful and quiet and only a couple of minutes from the beach.. Janet and the staff are some of the nicest people you will ever meet at a resort or anywhere for that matter.. They are very helpful and friendly.. We had a great time with the staff at the BBQ.. We are planning to go back in June and will stay at Dave's again it is the only choice for us.. Cant wait to see you guys again.. Take care and see you in June...Thank you for the great time and wonderful memories ..David and Annalie Apr 30, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, cebu Philippines

Dear Janet: I want to thank you for taking care of us and making us feel welcome when we stayed at your place over Easter. I miss the quiet times we had there, walks along the beach, and talking to all of you there. Could you also tell the young lady you were training I said thank you as well. Both of you were very sweet and kind and I appreciate how you treated me. I felt immediately like we were friends and it means a lot to me to have you treat us so nicely. Thanks again, Jeff May, 2006

"Very helpful" We really recommend this place to all that want a relaxed and quiet place to spend their time in Boracay. Dave and Janet helped us out numeral times with our wedding papers and contacts when we were planning for our marriage in Boracay. The resort is very cozy and is surrounded by a beautiful garden. The staff are friendly and nice. The rooms and bathrooms are clean. 5 stars to Daves and Janets resort from us. Jonas Westin and Sofia Talvik May 2, 2006:  jonas.westin@tv4.se, Sweden

"Think you are just getting a great value room? At Dave's, you get a family too." I found out about Dave's from Trip Advisor and contacted them as well as others. Dave's was quick to respond, always gave thorough info and offered to help with a lot of things. They were much better than any of the other places I contacted including some of the much more expensive places. One of the important things was that it was easy to just use PayPal to put a deposit. It was so much easier than some other places that wanted wire transfers or other strange methods of payment. So all the booking and pre-arrival service was excellent. We had arranged for pickup from Caticlan and everything was smooth. We were very happily surprised with the facilities and the rooms. There was a nice ceiling fan in the room, A/C (which we never ended up using), and the bed was very comfortable... and actually I really like the sheets :-) they were really soft and comfy. We had no problems with hot water or anything like this. It had a nice veranda to relax on which had a fan and light. So overall the rooms were great value. I guess the only thing I would have changed would maybe be some bigger pillows but probably just a personal preference as my girlfriend was fine with them. For those of you who were like me and never been to Boracay before, Ill just mention that I thought the location was perfect. Well, I thought Dave's location was perfect. It is maybe 50-100 meters from the beach kind of walking on a path between some other accomodations/houses, its very quiet, in the trees, etc... and near boat station 3 was perfect for us. I didn't want to be in the thick of all the craziness of 1 and 2. The beach here was much quieter than 1 and 2, I thought it was perfect. We had breakfast at Dave's several times, even while we weren't staying at Dave's (we stayed a few nights at Mandala Spa too). I had the same thing every day because it was so delicious. Banana shake, toast and scrambled eggs with onions, tomatos and bell peppers. I'm a pretty picky eater actually but the quality/taste was great, especially the bread. I've lived in Asia for about 4 years now and good bread is hard to come by sometimes but Dave's sourced properly on this front! Now to the staff/service. Dave's really feels like a family, like you are staying at a Bed and Breakfast. Most (probably all) live at Dave's, they all seem to be good friends and since its not a real big place anyway, there aren't a lot of employees. So it makes it feel like a small family of good friends. One night (while we were at Mandala), we were invited to come over and have a big dinner with all the staff and a few other guests. I think there were probably 12 of us there and afterwards we did the obligatory, sang some Karaoke. We all had a great time and was fun to just be hanging out with everybody and having a good time... and of course the spread of local food was very delicious. One other note I want to point out is that yes Dave's is excellent value, but I didn't really have a tight budget when I went to Boracay. I stayed at Dave's because it seemed like a great place, not because the price was attractive. May 4, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, American living in Shanghai

Hi Janet and Jenny, thanks for all your help in making our stay so enjoyable. We will for sure book up with you next time we are over and will recommend our friends to stay with you as well. I thought your place was very comfortable and welcoming, your customer service was first class. The room was clean and homely and although small we had no complaints. (I also liked the easy access to the internet on a speedy computer - nothing worse than a clapped out unit that leaves you wishing the service had not been put on in the first place). "5* service at back packer prices" Well I have to say the rumours are true and that Dave's Straw Hat really is a gem of a place to stay. From the moment I arrived at Caticlan I was met and looked after. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the service like a 5* hotel! Dear straw hat gang, Thanks for the warm welcome and satisfying accommodation.  We did enjoy the beauty, serenity and cleanliness of Boracay and it was an additional bonus for us to choose to stay in your hotel, it was like home away from home. "Great rooms, even better service" Dave, Janet, and the whole staff are excellent. We made our first trip to Boracay during Christmas 2005 and stayed at Daves Strawhat. It was our first time to Boracay and Larry (Daves staff member) actually met us at the airport to help us take the boat to the island. The rooms are clean and you are treated like family. We book all of our events through them to get the best rates and they ensure we are using a reputable company. We had such a great experience; I booked out his entire place for our wedding last April (2006).Great rates and only 50 meters to the beach Save the $150 US a night you would spend around Station 1 and use that money to stay at the Peninsula Makati when in Manila. The bottom line. Enjoy the simplicity the island has to offer. The more expensive places really are not any nicer than Daves as they all have similar amenities. When staying at the island, stay at Daves. May 20, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, San Diego, CA

"Clean, Peaceful with Personal Touch" Dave Straw Hut is great place if you have a budget to keep.
The Pros:
a.) The rooms are very clean. Ive been going in and out of Boracay for the past 5 years and have stayed in a variety of resorts (budget to high end). DSH keeps their rooms clean, cleaner than most of the higher end resorts ive been to. The bath room is nice and clean. The room smelled as it should.
b.) The bed is of the right firmness and the pillows are really soft. I spent alot of hours sleeping as a result. The sheets smell nice.
c.) The foods are priced right. The banana shake easily was my favorite. The food ive eaten are tasty and of the right serving size.
d.) The place is peaceful and quiet.
e.) The staff are attentive, unobtrusive and very warm. Dave and Janet are very hospitable. They will also help you out in getting good prices and bargains in the Island. Even the dog was polite.
f.) Reasonably priced. Bang for buck.
The Cons:
a.) The site of the resort may not appeal to those who want to wake up to the sight of the glorious blue waters of the beach. But again, you know that before your reserve so you cant complain. Its a bout a 3 minute walk from the beach. HOWEVER, I was told by Dave that their guests can use the beds in the front of the beach of a nearby Resort fronting the beach. You can use this area when swimming or sun bathing. Just ask Dave for details.
b.) The resto closes early at 8 pm. So you need to make sure to plan out your meals if you plan to eat in the resort.
My verdict: Great value of money for the budget-conscious traveler, especially for those who want to stay longer than a week. The place can grow on you. May 24, 2006:  noworry51@hotmail.com, Manila

Janet, Javid, Jen and your staff.  Thank You from the bottom of our hearts for all of your kindness and hospitality. You are very gracious hosts and it is folks like yourselves that really put the icing on the cake, the crme de la crem, as it were. Jonalyn and I will have many warm, fond & humorous memories of Boracay. For Jonalyn, it was a trip of many firsts, her first airplane flight, horseback riding, snorkeling and scuba diving & for the both of us our first "Super typhoon. Yes, from the Birkenstock's to the raging storm, the 50 peso's please to the flying coconut's, and of course we cannot forget "Mother Hen" ;) we will have many wonderful and fond stories to tell. The kindness and attentiveness of Jen always at her post and always ready to greet you with a cheerful smile and a "Good Morning Sir..." to the girls who prepared and cleaned our rooms, fixed our meals, the young gentlemen who were there to assist us with our bags and to the young gentleman who was always there to greet you at the gate after hours or watched over us during the night, even through the Typhoon. It is our gratitude that you have. To Janet, it was your foresight that we were able to weather the storm in the relative comfort as we did compared to the rest of the island. Even though you suffered from storm damage yourselves, you & your staff always saw to the needs of your guests first and with great care. We really appreciated the kindness shown on our last night when you arranged for us to stay at the Blue Mango. Please pass our thanks on to them as well. As to my recommendation to friends and family all I can say is that your Straw Hat Inn is the hidden treasure on Boracay Island. You may have bigger and fancier establishments with a great deal more expense on the Island, but none will compare to the warmth, comfort or care & kindness that you all have shown to your guests. It is your hospitality that made our trip as wonderful as could be hoped for. Again you have our heartfelt thanks. We will definitely be back again. God Bless to you all. Gratefully Your Friends Ciaran & Jonalyn, May 30, 2006

"Dave's Straw Hat Inn - May 2006": I stayed in Dave's Straw Hat Inn in May 2006. I travel a great deal through work and to support my diving obsession. I always look for a number of things before I book somewhere to stay:
1) A good, informative, factual web page,
2) A immediate and helpful response to my email enquiries and,
3) Good value for money
I found Dave's to satisfy my needs in every respect. The place was as depicted on the web site. I was met at the airport as requested at the time of my booking and from start to finish all my needs were dealt with in a courteous, professional and friendly manner.
I read all the reviews before I left especially the ones relating to security and location. For everyone's reference out there at no point during my stay did I feel unsafe or that any of my belongings was vulnerable. I wont mention security provisions on this site but rest assured they are there and available to guests. Dave's is located at one end of Boracays main beach, the quiet end which I liked. To walk from one end of Boracay to the other takes 30mins. If it's too hot or you feel too lazy there is a very efficient bicycle service which reduces the journey times to minutes.
I have no hesitation in recommending Dave's to anyone. May 29, 2006 dv_ant_1968@yahoo.com, Dubai

"I love the rain!!" It was a terrible trip to Boracay that time. there was a typhoon and we were caught in all those travel mishaps like our flight was canceled and the boat trip from Caticlan to Boracay was hold by the coastguard because of the weather disturbance...anyways we survived and rewarded with this.....a very warm welcome in DAVE'S STRAW HAT INN!!!
The impression of a happy family greets you at the resort..there is an aura! I should say there is, not a past tense of it coz I am sure when you come you too will experience what we had while staying at Dave's... Feel at Home!! Everyone is just smiling and give you what you need, like the smile of jenny at the reception area..she is just so great handling her work..keep it up Jenny!!! I have a wonderful vacation in Boracay!! Thanks to these people who will always make sure a worthwhile sleep, relaxing ambiance, great dine while at Dave's Straw Hat Inn..Merci beaucoup!!! Kuya Dave, Ate Janet, my brother Javin, our lovely dog (I forgot the name of the dog..hehehe)..and all the staff...me and my companions will surely consider going back to Boracay..to Dave's Hat Inn... "Magandang umaga to our friends Janet, Jennie, and the rest of the Dave's crew, Cesarlyn and I would like to thank you all for the most excellent service and accommodations that you provided to us. Our trip to Boracay was the highlight of our visit and will be forever remembered as a near perfect holiday. The only thing that went wrong was that Ces was ill for a day or two as you may remember. We felt very welcome by your entire staff who went out of their way to see that we had a great time. This was my first trip to the Philippines, and I must say that I was struck by the beauty of your land and more importantly the beauty of your people. Everywhere I went I was greeted with warmth and smiles. I did not want to leave the Philippines and hope to return again. If our plans again include Boracay, and we sure hope this to be true, we will certainly again stay in the house of Janet.. Scott, June 10, 2006

We had a wonderful time in Boracay and it was great to have met you, Jenny and the rest of the crew.  I was telling Keith that we couldn't have asked for a better place especially after our loooooooooooooooooong, journey to get there.  Everyone at Daves was very nice and helpful, so thank you again.  If we find ourselves in the Philippines again anytime soon, count on us staying there once again. We are back in California - just got home yesterday, and Keith and I were reminiscing about our time in the Philippines.  I'll have to look through our pictures to see if I have any good ones to share.  Thanks for making our trip memorable & fun!  Abby & Keith  July, 23, 2006.

Hi Janet, Thanks for making my stay at Daves a very comfortable and homely experience.  Some relatives are planning a Boracay trip in 2 years.  I will highly recommend your place for your excellent service and comfortable accommodations.  Ill also add to the numerous praises you already have on Trip Advisor.  Im also a member of VirtualTourist.com and will add your business as a place to visit. My only regret is that I was not able to take home the Mango Iced Tea with me.Take care, Eric July 24, 2006

"Wonderful time at Dave's You can't possibly go wrong with Dave's. True, it's a bit far from the heart of clubbing and night life that Bora has to offer, but staying there has proven that a little peace (or plenty of it) can actually be fun! After all the activities that one can indulge in Bora, a good night's rest is a necessity, and Dave's provides that. The room was clean, like everything was brand new. And I like it that they have showers outside the room so you can get rid of the sand on your body there before going inside the room. It's got a safety deposit box, too. Pretty useful. The bathroom was spotless! The staff, like the many other reviews say, are  accommodating and genuinely friendly. My husband and I stayed there last March. When we got there my husband requested if we could stay at the room towards the back. Unfortunately, the room was already booked for a couple arriving later that day. We were surprised that when we were about to check out, Dave's wife told us that since she wasn't able to give us the room, she just wrote off our bill the breakfast we had ordered the day before. Nice. Oh, and you'd definitely find Dave's rates very affordable for everything it offers. Clean rooms, privacy, good service, plenty of smiles. Dave's stands out from all the other accommodations in Bora.Jul 26, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, Manila, Philippines

"Friendly and helpful staff, efficient service and warm atmosphere" We stayed at Dave's for 7 nights in July. The service was excellent even before we got there...e-mail enquiries were promptly responded to by Janet and she was very helpful in arranging payment and providing travel info. Once we got to Dave's, we were able to check-in straight away and received a refreshing banana shake upon arrival (with the hot weather there, it was a very nice touch!). The room was clean and very good value for the price you pay. The staff at Dave's are all very friendly, helpful and efficient. As a dog-lover, we were delighted with Freckles being there.  Another plus point was the food - although the menu was not extensive, the quality of the food was very good and reasonably priced - we would recommend the mango shake, banana pancakes and chicken adobo there. Dave's is located very close to the beach - literally a few minutes walk. Overall we were very impressed and would recommend anyone going to Boracay to stay there. "Our stay at Dave's.." After spending hours at the Manila domestic airport waiting for our delayed flight, then 2 hours to the boat from the airport only to get rained on while waiting for the storm to pass, hopping on a tricycle, we FINALLY made it to Boracay. We were both very tired and hungry and when we arrived at Daves, that's when we felt the trip was all worth it. Janet & Jenny and staff had expected us around 7, but bc of the rain, we arrived around 9:30pm. They took us in like family, showed us to our room and called one of the local pizzerias and had a pizza delivered to our room. That was just the beginning. Every morning we were greeted by warm smiles. Our room was perfect. It was not only very clean and roomy, but had a ceiling fan and AC in the room and a ceiling fan outside on our porch. It was also extremely quiet, so we weren't woken up by some of the live bands and DJ's along the beach. We also had our laundry done one day and had an excellent home cooked Filipino meal our 2nd day there. On top of all these already wonderful amenities, an added bonus is the price.
If you find yourself taking a trip to Boracay, I highly recommended staying at Daves. You will not be disappointed.Jul 28, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, California

Reservation & communication was efficient: done via email & txt msgs. 50% deposit done thru paypal. Paid rest of balance and incidentals upon check-out. Location: Behind a beach front resort; one has to pass thru a 'right of way' alley to get to the resort but there were no issues encountered day or night. Location is very quiet and sheltered from the 'habagat' wind. One of the staff met us when we got off the tricycles to guide us to the resort. Since the place is fully booked and could only accommodate 22 of us, they were able to book another place for the 6 people nearby. Good food - prepared dinner for us the night we arrived and everyone ate breakfast there every morning; prices are reasonable as well. Cottages seems new with everything in good working condition, a/c, tv, fan, shower, etc. Place is clean and nicely decorated, both inside and outside. Resort offers free wi-fi for those with notebooks otherwise there is a pc available for internet access for a minimal fee. The room prices are excellent. The staff can arrange for boat trips, massage, etc. The resort also had a staff guide us back to Tambisaan beach for the trip back. They also handled the van transfer to Kalibo for much less than we paid for previously. All of the staff are helpful and friendly. Posted on: 3:12 pm, August 01, 2006pinoy99 Trip Advisor posting

"Been there and will be back" Stayed for 3 nights. Excellent staff - very accomodating and friendly. Nicely decorated property inside/outside. Everything works, from hot shower to ac, tv, etc. Good food -breakfast/dinner. Free wi-fi for laptop users or pay minimal fee using property's pc. Can arrange for massage, boat trip, hotel transfer etc. Definitely an excellent value for the money. Would stay there again if ever back in Boracay. Aug 12, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, jersey

"A really wonderful holiday" thank you very much for making our stay there (18th-26th of August) so pleasant. We were surprised of that really amazing beautiful resort at that low prices, the cleanliness and comfort in our room and most of all of the friendliness of your staff. "Warning: Dave's Straw Hat Inn Is Highly Addictive!" We have just returned from Boracay and it was certainly an excellent trip. The best we have ever had! The beautiful crystal clear waters and fine white sand, coupled with excellent budget accommodation at Dave's Straw Hat Inn (DSHI).We stayed at Dave's for 5 nights. It was a fantastic choice: clean, great value for money, fantastic food and most of all, gentle hospitality and great service: from room service to wake up calls! They cleaned our rooms everyday, and changed our sheets once every 2 nights! Food was perfect, we tried almost everything on the menu: mango pancakes, mango shakes, highly addictive breakfast and lunch burritos (personal favourites!)  Because of the wide variety of accommodation on Boracay, it took us some time deciding where to stay. We came across Dave's on the Travel Advisor website and the excellent reviews. Overall, a fantastic experience: This place really grows on you. Extra value added services could be providing fluffy towels and fluffy pillows to make the stay even more comfortable. We are committed fans of Dave's Straw Hat Inn. Many thanks to the whole family at Dave's! We can't wait to get back. :-) Sep 11, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, Singapore

"Daves Straw Hat Inn Was Awesome." This place was great. We were very pleased with the room and their great staff.  We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone going to Boracay. Why pay all the xtra money for a hotel that probably wouldnt compare to this.  The staff can help you with tours or a massage through reputable people. The $9.00 one hour massage in our room was great too.  I hope to visit there again. Sep 16, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, Tulsa, Oklahoma

  "My opinion" Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Daves Straw Hat, and at 25 euros a night on Boracay, it represents good value for money.
What's good.
1. Reservation procedure was very very smooth, and Janet was a pleasure to deal with.
2. A simple text message at Caticlan airport and somebody was on the beach to guide us to the hotel and carry the luggage.
3. Nice rooms and bathrooms. Much better than anything I saw on Bohol, Siquijor and Camiguin, though to be fair Daves is more expensive (but then so is Boracay compared to these islands).
4. The bathroom has a hot (probably the hottest water in the Philippines) shower with fresh water in abundant supply. Best Ive seen in the Philippines at this price range.
5. The beds were comfy, and the rooms were very (spotlessly)clean.
6. Beach towels available free of charge and snorkelling equipment available for hire
7.Janet had just the right amount of welcome without being overbearing, which resulted in a very pleasant stay.
8. It is in a quiet location so no noise at night (not even roosters), but only a few minutes walk away from all the action Boracay has to offer. I loved the live rock music and 3 euro cocktails on the beach at Charles, but was very very glad it was a 10 minute walk away from the hotel.
What could be better (and I mean this constructively)
1. The showers were difficult to set at just the right temperature, iIsuspect because of pressure differences in the hot and cold supply.
2. Breakfast is freshly made but was a little slow at times.
Conclusion
Dont be under illusions: Daves is not competing against usd150/night hotels. However at his price point, and probably the next one up, he's got a great offering and you should definitely put Daves on your possibles list.
If I go back to Boracay I shall go back to Daves; no hesitation whatsoever. Loved it. Oct 28, 2006 A TripAdvisor Member big shot1000, Europe

  "Best Vacation Ever" This small gem is off the beaten path, but it was the most relaxing vacation I have ever had in my life. We will definitely be back!!! Nov 5, 2006 A TripAdvisor Member  shake downstreet, Hawaii

Hi, Janet, I must say that after staying in many resorts all over the world, my visit at your place will stick in my mind as the best ever! Not only is Boracay the most beautiful beach I have seen, your hospitality, staff, and wonderful accommodations will stay fresh in my mind. Thanks so much for making our visit truly memorable. Rheza and I missed you all immediately after leaving. Please count on our coming back again within the next couple of years, for a much longer stay. We miss you!!!! "Like being with friends" Quite simply, Dave's Straw Hat Inn is the BEST accomodation experience I have ever had. 5-star rooms, a cosy locale (close enough to White Beach for a quick dip before breakfast, but tucked away enough to be sooo quiet at night), central reception hub which feels like a family room (patio?), and a staff of 24 carat gold - a reflection on the management, who felt like old friends after 5 minutes. 9 rooms, at least 5 staff, so you can imagine the care and attention available (but never forced). And they will be your tour agents too - whatever we wanted was organized for us, no extra charge. An island hop, snorkelling, hiring a motorised tricycle - all we did was ask and it was arranged. There is no better place for a holiday, especially at Dave's prices - he's crazy. I would have gladly paid double.

"Affordable and personalized service...really feeling at home" We stayed at this awesome place from Nov 10-16, 2006.  Staying at Dave's Straw Hut gave you the feeling like being at home. They excel in accomodating your request (we requested a sugpu dinner out from the market and Dave's crew did accomodate us, it save us the hassles of going to talipapa!). They treat their guest like family friends (hooking us up with excellent restaurant and awesome diving class). Place is by far in excellent standard with their rate. Very private, simple and quiet. Bedsheets are changed and rooms are cleaned everyday. Thanks to all the "J" crews (most of their staff has names that start in "J")...most especially to the hosts/owners, Dave and Janet. No wonder why they always have high rate of returning clients! The only drawback is accessibility from docking stations. The local government banned inbound boats from Caticklan to docked at the shores/stations, they all docked at Cagban (?). So when we arrived, after getting off from the tricycle, we had a little trekking done. Am sure you can arrange with Dave's to have someone picks you up from the airport which we are not aware can be arrange. Nov 19, 2006  JY2KCA, Toronto

Hi Janet, Jenny and everyone else at DSHI. We're now safely back in the UK after a couple of days in Hong Kong. We just wanted to say that we had the most wonderful time staying with you. The memories of your smiles, good humour, patience when we weren't feeling so great, and fantastic service will live with us for a long time. We hope to return at some time in the future, but in the meantime will always recommend Dave's Straw Hat. Here's a toast to you all from a rather cold London. Cheers and best wishes. For the price you couldn't beat it!" The Inn had it wired such that from the moment you stepped out of security with your baggage you carried nothing, never had to reach into your pocket to tip, etc., until you settled your very reasonable bill (tipping is up to you) and reluctantly left. The same until you got back to the airport. Pre-paid, hassel free. The Inn is a minute walk from pristine beaches. There were several excellent food places full of singing, happy staff who would serve you on while lying in the sand. The beach "bars" were mostly made of bamboo, colorful, and hip. You could listen to soft guitar, house, or techno. Places closed around 3/4 AM. You felt safe on the walk home and there were 24/7 food places. The beach was both family and single person oriented (as was the Inn). Everyone smiled, was helpful, and appeared content. The people that work on the island sometimes returned after vacations and were, in essence, "living where they wanted to vacation." Dec 5, 2006  divdoc, Tumon

"Wow!" What can I say other than the stay with them was amazing. If you are looking for a nice family oriented place to stay with everything you need to enjoy Boracay and still be able to stay in touch with home this is the place. The owners and the staff were all so friendly and hospitable. I got in a motorbike accident while staying there and the owner, Janet, cleaned up my wounds (even though I whined like a baby ~80)) and was my in house "nurse/mom" for a week. It is nice and quiet at boat station 3 and I always slept like a log. They always have hot water and the place is cleaned spotless daily. New sheets every 2 days. If you don't feel like going out to eat they have great food right at the inn and you eat it right on the porch. The plants all around the property are so beautiful and give it a very tropical secluded feel. Try to book the "bird's nest" if possible. It gives you an added sense of seclusion if that is what you are looking for. The beach in front of the place is usually empty and the corner store has almost everything you need grocery/toiletry wise. Dave even let me rent a cell phone for a while so I could contact people I met while on the island. No need to look any further. Yes you can stay at a $20 (1000 piso) a night place, but you won't get the same service and hospitality. Thanks again Dave, Janet and all the staff. I will be back as soon as I can!  Dec 9, 2006  drmngofparidyse, Kentucky

"You Won't Be Disappointed!" My wife and I recently stayed at Dave's for twelve nights. We wish it could have been 1200 nights. Everything we had read about them was true without exception. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Janet and Jenny arranged all of our activities and even packed us a nice lunch to take with us for a boat tour. You can't beat their prices - more than reasonable! And it's QUIET there at night! The inn is arranged such that you have a feeling of being in a tropical garden -- it's just very nice. Dave, Janet and Jenny even arranged our stays at hotels away from Boracay (Iloilo City and Manila). They have connections and experience with other properties and that saved us a fortune and it was much better than traveling "blind" into places we had never been. They followed up with us to make sure that we arrived safely too -- I don't know of any other place that would do all of that for you. The bottom like is they CARE about you, the customer! The room was very comfortable and modern with all the modern stuff like cable TV, phone, free wifi (which is a big plus for us) and a nice fridge that they stock for a VERY reasonable charge. Hot and cold water - nice shower, air conditioning, safe deposit box in the room - very secure. You feel safe and secure at Dave's and that's what it's all about. You don't have to worry about anything while your stuff is there - they take such good care of you!! I miss them already!! What's not to like about a place that's more than lived up to it's outstanding reputation? I could go on and on about Dave's but you get the picture. I can't wait to get back there in two years!! "friendly smiling faces!!" I can't say enough about Dave's Straw Hat Inn. Dave staff are the friendliest most hospitable people. I was a female traveling alone. They went out of thier way to see that I had everything I could possibley need. This included personal escorts by the staff to make sure I knew where I was going as well as recommendations on things to see. The accomodations were very clean and nice. The food and the shakes were great as well. Highly recommended place to visit and stay:-) Lisa Newton Dec 14, 2006  fignewton63, Dallas, Texas

Hello Janet, First of all, I would like to thank you all your dilligence on dealing with my reservation. That made things lots easier. Althought I couldnt meet you on my days at Daves's the other members there make my stay really enjoyable. I really felt like at home. I dont know how to express all the overwhelming consideration and attentive I received from all the work members at Dave, some times even beyond what I consider normal. I especially would like to express my gratitude to Jenny and Janis, ;-) I would definitively consider Dave again if I have a second chance of going to Boracay in the future (I hope near future). Your location, atmosphere, cleanliness, food, etc is great but your staff is superb. As I promised, here send you two pictures from all the members at Dave. Hope you like them.

Hello to everyone at Dave's Straw Hat Inn! I just wanted to say thank-you for my time staying with you. Everyone was SO friendly and welcoming - it was very much appreciated, and was the best welcome I could have had to the Philippine Islands (Boracay being the first one I visited). Your accomondation was awesome - exceptional even for the price you offer, even if the power 'fluctuated' alot! It certainly didn't bother me though and did not spoil in any way my stay with you. I would definately stay with you again if I am ever able to return to Boracay, although next time I would definately bring either friends or family with me! Anyway, like I said I just wanted to say thank-you. I hope that you all have a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. All the best, James Powell, (formerly a guest of room 6!)December 19, 2006

Thanks Janet!  Our stay more than we could have asked for.  And yes, regardless of the typhoon we enjoyed every minute of our trip.  The typhoon actually gave us something to talk about and will be something we can all tell our grandkids someday!  I wish we could have stayed in your hotel those last few nights as the other hotel, Orchids, wasnt as accommodating and comfortable as yours.  But all in all it was a great experience and I will follow that link and praise your hospitality.  Thanks again!  "The BEST place to stay in Boracay, period!" I looked around for a place to stay in Boracay for quite a while, before I actually went there. I am not a party animal, and hate trying to sleep over loud, thumping music, but still like to be able to enjoy night life within walking distance of my room. I wanted a place with a really clean room, a fridge, cable TV, no bugs, and a fully functional, large bathroom. I desired staff that was friendly because they felt like it, and could point me in the right direction to any activity on the island. Also, I wanted to be able to eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the resort, and really enjoy it. I must tell you, Dave's Straw Hat really delivers all that, and more. At night, they light a mosquito coil on the pathway if front of every room, so you can enjoy a nice bug-free evening on your private patio. There are so many fantastic personal touches like that, it's impossible to list them all. There is no swimming pool, but look at the picture I posted, which is right in front of their place. A short walk of a few meters gets you to this amazing beach, so who needs a pool? They don't have a lot of rooms, and the price is incredibly low, so it's advisable to book well in advance of your trip. I found it easy to communicate with them directly via e-mail and yahoo chat. Just google their website. Also, I recommend that you have them send a staff member to Caticlan airport, or wherever you arrive, to meet you. They only charge for the actual boat fare (cheap!), and this makes it really hassle-free. Upon arriving at Dave's, be prepared to be greeted with big smiles from all the staff. You can tell they like working there, which is a rarity in the Philiipines. You'll probably soon meet the owners, who live there. They are warm, friendly, and are genuinely concerned that the stay meets with your approval. Day or night, I was never lacking for any bit of service, and was never told "NO", for any request. I will go back to Boracay as soon as I can, and will never stay anywhere else. Thanks to them, my stay was much better than it would have been without their help. Oh, one more thing.....after breakfast, save a piece of bacon for Freckles the dog. He's a great pooch! Jan 8, 2007  LARonster, Los Angeles, California

"Couldn't have asked for anything more."Our stay at Dave's Straw Hat was more than we could have asked for. We got stranded on Caticlan and Janet was kind enough to help us find a hotel there during the typhoon. Once we got to Bora, we found the hotel to be more than we could have ever expected. The rooms were VERY clean and well kept. The staff were more than courteous. I had gotten sick with the amoeba and they were more than anxious to help get me the medicine that I needed while I was bedridden. All in all, I don't believe a stay at any other hotel could have given us such a great experience. Will be staying at Dave's again in the future! Jan 8, 2007  Rasengan, Chicago, IL

Island Paradise at Daves" From the moment we walked into "Daves Straw Hat" we felt at home.When we arrived the staff greated us with smiles and delicious mango shakes. We had been travelling around the Philippines and Daves was by far the BEST place on our travels. We had e-mailed several hotels in the Philippines, the best response , most efficient and resourcful was from Janet at Daves Straw Hat. The rooms are very clean with nice little touches. All non-smoking rooms make them that much fresher. Beautiful grounds in the day , lights around the trees and candles lit on every deck at night . They also have a nice private little room with internet access and a lovely view. Our daughter will always remember ordering French toast for breakfast and having it delivered to our deck by one of the staff members always with a smile. We can't say enough nice things about the staff and the owners. So helpful, cheerful, caring, accommadating and always willing to lend a hand. Dave himself helped with accomadations for our last night in Manila. We are going to miss our little family at "Daves Straw Hat". John, Jennifer and Chelsea. Vancouver, Canada.  "Precious Moments @ BORA"  oppssss it's a late reaction for sure, considering that we had been in Dave's Straw last August of 2006... after our wedding... We spent 6 days vacation in Dave's Straw... There resort was really quite cool and with all the plants around which adds more view... With most of the comments it was really true, that Dave's Straw staff we're very accomodating... Bedrooms are good enough not too big but yet not too small... And also everything was quite clean and well maintain... If there was one thing I can't forget about our stay there, it has nothing to do about the nice place of Dave's Straw... Davide and I hope to be there again soon... Regards to Miss Janeth!!! Besides Janet's tasty burger also great food at the nearby Arwana restaurant/hotel. Perfect location for both relax and enjoy, because only a 15 minutes stroll to nightlife activities. My favorite place already on a beautiful island. Feb 1, 2007  asianparadise, Haarlem, Netherlands

Hello Janet, Sorry it took so long to write back.  Like a year :-) But Philipp and I will never forget you and the staff and the great time we had staying with you.   I miss the beach, although SF has tons of great restaurants and city life, plus it is such a romantic and picturesque city.  How is life in Boracay?  Wish we could visit again soon. Keep in touch and our warmest greetings to the staff. Best Regards, Aileen and Philipp, February 04, 2007

Hi Janet,  I had a great time in Boracay and a fun time staying at Straw Hat Inn. I loved my room with the comfortable porch and all the beautiful plants all around. I walked up and down White Beach everyday and have to say I liked Straw Hat more than the more expensive resorts on the beach, since it is more quaint, quite, and you and all the other people working at Straw Hat are so nice. I just got my pictures developed today and was looking at the photos that i took of Straw Hat Inn. It made me lonesome to come back to Boracay and see you at Straw Hat. I have a picture of you and another staff member as well as a picture of Dean. I hope to come back next year. Take care, keep smiling and have fun.  Larry  February 12, 2007

"A home away from home"  Hi Dave (a very calm person), Janet (a very helpful and happy person) and all "J" friendly staff. We've been at Daves Straw Hat Inn last dec. 2006 to jan. 2007...what can we say....actually we are speechless. We got more than we expected! Our room were perfect, the service was more than you can get at a modern 5 star resort...we really felt at home at Daves...the food and drinks (especially daves favorite mango ice tea) was really good so dont miss it!  Janet, the lovely owner was very helpful with everything. We never forget you guys. You really gave us a memorable vacation at Boracay this time. We've been at Boracay 6 times already but this resort is the best! Boracay island is called paradise like ..DAVES STRAW HAT INN resort...  Vi saknar er allihopa och tack s? mycket! bamse kram till er allihop! Janet,  As always, our stay at Dave's Straw Hat Inn was WONDERFUL!  Without a doubt, it is our favorite destination for a little vacation.  The room was wonderful, as usual, and your staff is always the BEST! We are looking forward to being back on Boracay, and back at Dave's in the next few months.  As soon as I can get our next trip planned, I'll contact you for a reservation.  We would NEVER stay anywhere but Dave's when we're on Boracay, and I recommend you to everyone. Thanks again! Dennis & Jenny, February 19, 2007

Dear Janet, Thank you all for your wonderful hospitality. We're having Boracay withdrawals already! After staying on the northern end of the island, we decided that we much prefer the life around boat station 3. It was quieter and more relaxed; not to mention Da Mario's pizza was to die for! And your banana oatmeal was my favourite -> they don't offer this on the north side. Thank you for helping us rebook that 13:30 flight. As you had warned us, the flight was indeed exactly an hour delayed so we timed everything to perfection on the way back. All in all, we loved Boracay and hope to come back to stay longer with you. We're definitely recommending you to family and friends. cheers! Marie & Adriaan, February 21, 2007

Thank you for a memorable stay at Dave's. We found our room was above expectations and the staff extremely friendly. The generous advice and assistance for all sorts of queries we put forth given by the both of you and Jenny made our holiday that much more enjoyable. I just got back from Boracay for 4 days and stayed at Daves Straw Hat Inn... Let me just say the place is great!! Janet and all of the staff are super friendly and helpful..The hotel itself is a little off the beaten path and what is good about that is the place is dead silent at night...The rooms are kept immaculate by housekeeping and the restaurant has good food at great prices..If anyone is considering a stay in Boracay I would strongly reccomend Daves instead of one of those overpriced resorts...I WILL be going back to Boracay and I WILL be staying at Daves Straw Hat Inn...A big THANKS goes to Janet and all the staff at Daves for making my stay at Boracay very enjoyable...Gary...usa. Janet & friends, Ive been meaning to send you some of the pictures I took last July. Use whatever you wish. I often think of my wonderful visit to Boracay & Daves Straw Hat Inn. Your lovely inn was such a great surprise. My brother was gettting married on Panay and found your place on the internet. I had guessed that coming to Boracay was going to be an adventure. It seemed like we might actually have to wade from the boat to the beach, and a place called Daves Straw Hat sounded like it might be kind of "primative". Shows how much we should trust our mental images! After I arrived, I had to email my family to let them know that I was in paradise, and staying in one of the nicest inns Ive ever been in. When I describe it now, no one can believe it could be so lovely & hospitable, and yet cost so little. Janet, you are born to be an inkeeper! And you employ some of the friendliest & most genuinely caring young people one could ever meet. You all made my stay one I long to return to! Ill see you again, sometime! "sweet quiet place in Boracay" Me and my girlfriend stayed for 5 nights/4 days. Janet and everyone on the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, sheets were changed I think daily. The place is quiet and away from the traffic and noisy bands. It's a bit off from the beach, but it's a minute or so walk away. Wifi is free and my girlfriend was able to upload some pics taken in Boracay. Overall: Great for budget minded travelers, who prefer a quiet relaxing area away from the party folks/traffic aka tricycles. The staff is very helpful and accomodating. Thanks Janet and everyone ! Twas always service with a smile!!! the staff: Janice, Jenny, Jo Anne & the owner, Janet were all friendly and approachable, not to forget Freckles... they were like long lost friends! =) The room was more than I expected, it was clean and just enough: not too big, not too small, and the sheets were changed DAILY! Plus you get all the amenities of a first class resort at such an affordable price! Unbelievable!!!! Honestly, its hard to go out once you're in the resort because of the comfort it offers! What better place to relax after a looong stroll at the beach!!! .. yeah... its best to relax with a glass of their Mango Iced Tea!!! =) nilbelethien, Manila, Philippines  Mar 29, 2007 TRIP ADVISOR REVIEWER

"The best place to stay in Boracay" We stayed at Dave's for 7 nights and had the most amazing time. The service is faultless and the accomodation excellent. It really is the most welcoming and friendly service I have had anywhere I have stayed in the world, even better than World renowned 5 star hotels. I spent my birthday there and they bought me a suprise birthday cake and made it a really special day. Dave's is really as they say, " Your home away from home" . I would recommend Dave's as an excellent value, safe place to stay. Dear Janet (and of course, Jenny, Joanne, Janice, Dean, Arthur and Freckles) - so sorry if I have forgotten anyone, I will post a glowing review of Dave's but until I get around to it I really just wanted to say another huge thankyou for making our holiday so memorable. Janet, and all of your staff have built something truly wonderful at Daves' - never before have we been so well looked after on a holiday anywhere in the world.  Nothing was too much trouble and as a result you ensured that we and all of our friends had a holiday on beautiful Boracay that we will never forget. We are missing you already. Today is our first day back at work and school and we are all wishing we were still having our happy hour on the beach at Arwana's or singing Karaoke with all of you guys. Thank you all so much once again.

Lots of love Carey, Karen, Patrick and Georgia. Australia, April 16,2007

its pat here. just wanted to say a great thankyou for your care and hospitality. you were great with all 18 of us over the whole two weeks. right from when we were met at Caticlan to the day we left. we had such a great time that Georgia has been sad ever since she got home because she loved it so much in Boracay that she wasn't ready to come home. Hopefully I will see you all again later this year because i am going to try and save some money to come back after I have finished my study ad so I will certainly come and say a big hello with a couple of hugs. :)  you guys are great and you have a great group of staff and are in a prime location and simply all 18 of us could not have asked for anything more. hope to see all of you again soon. "Paradise does exist...."  Melbourne, Victoria  Apr 17, 2007, It doesn't get much better than this. My first trip to this indescribably beautiful island where my group (18 in all) stayed at Dave's for 2 unforgettable weeks. Extremely affordable accommodation but with world class service (better than most 5*) all delivered with huge smiles. Every need was attended to professionally and in a friendly manner. Tours, activities, transportation to/from island, or if you needed something to eat, all organised at front desk. Rooms had everything you could want, were meticulously cleaned every day with new towels, linen changed every 2 days, air-con and TV with a 100 channels, and laundry done and returned same day. Tucked away in a garden oasis about 1 min from the beach - also away from hustle and bustle and noise that is creeping into Boracay. We all loved being part of Dave's family, complete with family pet, Freckles the dog. They are such a special group of people which we grew very fond of. Will return at first available opportunity. Absolute Perfection"  San Jose, Ca  Apr 23, 2007, Where do I begin.... they couldn't have been more accommodating to us. We arrived to the resort hot, tired and a little disoriented. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed with warm smiles and EXCELLENT SERVICE. They produced welcome drinks within two minutes of our arrival. Our room was ready and well equipped ahead of check in time. I can't say enough about all the staff members at Dave's. I have never seen a happier and well working team at any hotel. There are so many choices of hotels on Boracay but the service we received has never been achieved by any hotel anywhere that I have ever stayed. Let me give you a few examples. They were excellent at arranging all the usual stuff like parasailing, jet ski etc. The price we got was better than we could've obtained on the beach. When our stay ended we wanted to extend our stay but they were fully booked . They found 3 other choices for us to stay. After we checked out they continued to help us. They booked our airfare for us . They found us a hotel in Makati and booked it for us. They didn't just book it but confirmed everything with us with texts and emails so we were informed every step of the way. We never wondered if it had taken place. This was all while we were staying at another hotel. A week after we had stayed there while on the way to Manila they texted us and thanked us and suggested restaurants while we were in Makati. It's unfortunate b/c they spoiled us so much that I find myself comparing all others to their high level of customer service. I felt like I had not just rented a room but gained family and friends. That kind of treatment...Priceless... The best part is that they are one of the most reasonably priced resorts on the Island nestled in the quiet station 3 but just minutes away from the action in station 2. Thank You Thank You Thank You. TRIP ADVISOR REVIEWER

"Paradise at Daves"  Missouri USA  May 2, 2007 Dave, Janet and their staff are prime examples of what quality service should be. Hospitality and a slice of Paradise is what you will find at Daves Straw Hat Inn. Dave and Janet will arrange just about anything and everything you want from island hoping to porter service to and from the hotel. They provide Room service at modest prices with very generous portions. I was definatly a 5 star hotel room at 2 star prices. The cleanest rooms and friendliest service I ever had anywhere. My hat is definitely "off" to Daves Straw Hat. Anytime I am there I will definitely stay. The 5 star resorts in the Philippines should send their staff to Daves to be trained.

"I Love Dave's Straw Hat Inn!!!!"  Los Angeles, California  May 3, 2007, I think the title says it all. Dave's Straw Hat Inn is charming, clean, and totally affordable and the owners and staff provide excellent customer service. I stayed for 5 days and my initial intention was just to use the room as a place to sleep, shower, and stow our stuff. But Dave, Janet, and the staff actually took the time to hang out and chat and made me feel so totally at home that there were times when I just didnt want to leave the resort grounds. I especially LOVED the mango iced tea welcome drink. YUM!! I also liked the fact that someone was always around to assist anytime of the day or night. Dave's is ideally located - you're far enough away from the noise but close enough to the action at the bars and clubs. The rooms are spotless, tastefully decorated, and big enough to fit 3 people and their stuff comfortably. There is also a restaurant on site - you have to try the burrito and the adobo, its excellent! - so you dont have to go far for food. The beach is easily accessible - you're there in seconds! The room rates are totally reasonable and affordable and you actually get more than you pay for in terms of quality and service. And have I mentioned their EXCELLENT customer service? Dave and Janet and the entire staff are so accommodating and friendly they make you feel like you're staying with friends instead of a hotel. I cant say enough good things about Dave's. This is the only resort I want to stay in whenever I come back to Boracay. Book early because they do tend to fill up quickly especially during peak season.

"Best for the pricel !"  Expat in Shanghai  May 6, 2007, Dave's straw hat Inn is the best hotel for the price. Although dave's is not RIGHT on white beach, it is literally about 200 meters back. There is a clear path that runs from dave's to the beach. Dave's service however makes it truly stand out. All of the employees of dave's were incredibly welcoming and accommodating.  The rooms were always clean and are not large, but definitely large enough considering you'll be spending most of your time on the beach....but all rooms have a nice size patio with chairs....Location is a 15 minute walk on the beach from D'Mall and the major shopping, but we found this to be a perfect location. There are still many restaurants surrounding Dave's, but being 15 minutes from the crowds of the busy section of the beach is great. TRIP ADVISOR REVIEWER

"Dave's Straw Hat Inn: the best place to stay in Boracay!"  Japan  May 6, 2007,  O MY WORD! This place was absolutely AMAZING. The rooms were sparklingly clean, the bathrooms were beautiful, the grounds were a tropical paradise, but the thing that makes this place a stellar place is the friendly and helpful staff. The place is slightly set back from the beach, but getting to it is quite easy, as there were signs pointing to it from the main walkway along White Beach. It is located in Boat Station 3, which is a quieter, more resort-y section of White Beach. A lot of the louder bars and clubs are in Boat Station 1, but it's only a 10-15 minute walk away, and the beauty and peacefulness of Boat Station 3 make it a great place to stay. We stayed in a one bedroom room. There were 3 of us, but we all fit quite comfortably. We had one double bed and a pull out trundle. The rooms are fit with air-conditioning and a fan, keeping the temperature comfortable. There was also a fridge with reasonably priced drinks (the prices weren't significantly different from the local supermarkets) and lots of shelf space for our belongings. The bathroom was BEAUTIFUL. A lot of the toilets around Boracay can be slightly uncomfortable to us picky westerners due to lack of cleanliness, but the one in our room was fantastic. The shower area was comfortable, clean, big and had hot running water.  Although Dave's Straw Hat Inn is listed as a budget place to stay, they provide bath towels, small hand towels, soap, and even clean up your room and replace the towels on a daily basis - you definitely get more for your money! They have a laundry service that is reasonably priced and your clothes come back fresh smelling and clean. They even have dryers, if you'd rather not have your clothes hang-dried (we all have those stretchy pants we want to shrink back!). The food is great (mango pancakes are a must-try!). The lobby is comfortable and has a large book selection for trading, borrowing, and buying. There is even a DVD service - you can rent a DVD player and watch DVDs in the comfortable air conditioning of your own room should the hot afternoon sun prove too intense for you. They even have sun screen, tanning oils, and after sun skin care products at the counter you can use freely. Dave is a fantastically helpful and friendly guy who has lots of connections with different dive groups, island hopping tours, and massages. He can hook you up! You can tell he really cares about his guests. The rest of the staff all have names that begin with J, so if you forget their names, you can call them "J" as a special nickname, and no one will notice your lack of memory. The staff is wonderful and the service is great. They really make you feel like you have a home away from home. Make sure to book early, b/c this place fills up fast!

"Dave's on Boracay"  Japan  May 7, 2007, Dave's is a great little place near station 3 (the more chill side of the beach) with a very cool little garden, amazing staff that will do anything for you, and nice basic clean rooms. If you REALLY want to be in the mix of the action, this is the wrong end of the beach....but that being said, it doesnt take all that long to walk to the other side. Dave's is just down the path from the beach, and a very nice one at that (beach that is). I think the beaches near station 3 are cleaner than those near station 1. Thats my 2 cents...

"An amazing first Boracay experience", An American Girl in Rural Japan  May 7, 2007,  6 friends and I stayed at Dave's for five days. Upon arrival, I must admit we were a bit surprised to find we had to wind through a local neighborhood to get to the property--but that quickly became something that was a bonus. Not being beachfront meant it was quieter at night. Any other qualms we had were instantly melted away. The location was also nice--station 3 is the quiet end of the beach, but it was still an easy walk to the loud party atmosphere of station 2. There are also many excellent restaurants and bars in the surrounding area. But the best part was the staff for sure... It was really great getting to chat with Dave and Janet (the owners) as well as the other staff members. Jenny was better than any concierge I've ever had! If we needed a reservation--they did it. If we needed an opinion on a place--they gave it. It was so helpful since we didn't really know anything about it. We never got the impression we were being suckered into things, every suggestion they gave was spot on. They really made us feel part of their family, which we all really loved and appreciated. We all felt like we were in university all over again. We'd all do our own thing during the day, then meet in the open-air lounge for dinner, the staff would cheerfully bid us farewell, we'd have dinner and drinks, and then return to our bungalows and chat on the porch (no need to worry about bugs since they so kindly lit mosquito coils every night for us.) A really good place for big groups, I think. P.S. Their mango iced tea is amazing.

The right place to rest after a Boracay Night. Be rest assured that we'd definitely endorse your place to others. Our best regards, Ben & Dency, Friday, May 25, 2007

Janet, We had a great time at Boracay thanks to you and you great staff. Please tell them that we really appreciate it. We are 100% sure that when I come back to Boracay we will once more stay with you.. Best regards, Carlos & Febie, May 27, 2007

=================================================

Dear Ms. Janet and all at Dave's (Jen, Jo, Arthur, Rex, Freckles the dog and the rest of the staff): Thank you for the warm accommodation extended to us during our stay in Boracay.  Our honeymoon was made extra special and memorable with having Boracay as a honeymoon destination and our stay there at Dave's.   We appreciate very much the recommendations on activities/adventures to do there on the island and also booking us for the activities at discounted rates. With a very attractive and secure place/ambiance; clean, modern and comfy rooms; great food and drinks; and most of all super warm and friendly staff, we will indeed recommend your place to our family and friends and consider going back in our future travels. Dave's is surely what we can call "a home away from home". Best regards, James and Rhena Tuesday, May 29, 2007

I really enjoyed my 18 night stay at your cozy inn the room was so clean it was such a bargain for the amount of money I payed. Your staff was so helpful arranging all my daily activities, I was really impressed with your courteous staff they arranged a special dinner for me the sweet and sour lapu lapu and the 3 lobsters were wonderful it was the best meal I've ever eaten in Boracy to tell you the truth. Your staff even escourted me to the hourse stables because the stables are not visible from the main street, your staff also arranged a helicopter ride for me. Dan from Honolulu Hawaii  Wednesday, May 30, 2007

"Dave's Straw Hat Inn is a cozy hideaway in a corner of paradise" Laguna Hills, CA  Jun 18, 2007; A cozy hideaway just a short walk from the beach. A very friendly and accommodating staff. The manager, Joanne, met us at the airport and guided us to the hotel via boat, motorcycle/sidecar, pedicab, and finally by foot up the path to the hotel. The hotel is only a few years old and the grounds are neat and clean. The rooms are small, without much room to spread out your stuff or hang your wet things, but we managed just fine. It was hot in June so the A/C was a life-saver. They have an air conditioned internet room also. Boracay has mosquitos so we tried to keep the screen door shut, but we still got a few bites each. I would go back in a heartbeat, only during a cooler time of year.

"frankie" Sydney  Jun 22, 2007; staff are so friendly and accommodating. Rooms are clean and spacious and the whole resort has a cozy and family friendly atmosphere. Thank you for the good time we had.

"I'm ready to go back!" Chelan, WA  Jun 25, 2007; After reading all the reviews about places to stay on Boracay, my partner and I decided on Dave's. We couldn't have made a better choice. While they will meet you at the Caticlan airport, the jetty port, or the Boat Station #3 access road, we ventured forth on our own and arrived at the resort around 1 pm. We were immediately greeted and made to feel welcome! (and also got a welcome drink - I wasn't sure what it was at that point, but it was cold and very tasty.) I found out the next day that it was Mango Ice Tea (and I don't like Ice Tea!) but I've learned to like Mango Ice Tea. The room was great (#5) and was just fine for two of us. They have beach towels for rent for 30-35p per day. The food at Dave's was pretty good too.  The day we were leaving, I told my partner that I could have stayed here for the entire 9 days I was in the Philippines (except for the days that we were at his house and his parents house). I look forward to returning to Dave's Straw Hat Inn in the future.

"Great Place To Stay", Stockton, CA  Jun 26, 2007; For background, I stayed at three other resorts during my 21 day stay in PI - Shangri-La Manila, CocoGrove Siquijor and Friday's Boracay. I was impressed with all the reviews so I decided to book three rooms for three days - four adults two kids. Three words describes Dave's - Service, Service and Service. What it lacks in not being beachfront or in size, it easily makes up for in service. Jenny was extremely helpful in setting up tours and all the tour companies they use were reputable and delivered what they promised. The ATV tour, and All day Island hopping tours are must do's. The ATV tour is a great way to get up to MT Lohu and the incredible views of the Island. The All day Island hopping tour is a great way to see the other main attractions - caves, crocodile island, puka beach among other attractions. Just an example of the great service - My wife loves SPA treatments so Jenny booked the Princess Treatment for her at Mandala Spa ($200USD). Since it is a little confusion getting there from Dave's, Jenny had a staffer escort my wife to the SPA and also called the SPA after the treatment was completed so she could escort my wife back to Dave's. I would definitely recommend Dave's.A worthwhile note just so your fully informed is that you do have to walk through some local houses and other smaller resorts to get to Dave's location. The first impression might leave you with some doubts, but the staff at Dave's quickly put's you at ease with welcome drinks and genuine smiles and greetings. Best lodging value period!

July 1, 2007; Janet, Thank you and the staff so much.  Brittany and I really felt at home there and we have a wonderful time.  Your staff was so friendly and helpful.  I would stay with you any time.  I will tell my friends about your resort as well.  Boracay was like heaven to me.  I have traveled around the world and that is the best place I have ever seen.  I will definitely be going back there again and again.  And yes, you can count on me for wanting to stay with you. If Eric gets too loud, just put a dirty sock in his mouth.  That is what I do to make him quite. take care Ed

"Felt welcomed and very comfortable!" Calgary, Canada Jul 8, 2007; We stayed with Dave's Straw Hat Inn in the beginning of July (2007). I felt so welcomed and at home during our stay! The common area was relaxed and serene. You can read stacks magazines and books that are there for the guests. Janet, Joanne and Jenny were always there to greet us with big beautiful smiles. The air conditioned room was perfectly clean and the bed was comfortable. I really appreciated clean linen and towels everyday. The food available was well made and delicious. The whole Inn is filled with gorgeous plants and is kept really tidy. The staff was sincere, kind and always helpful with whatever needs we had. The beach is just a 2 min walk from Dave's. The beach is unbelievable! It was amazing to walk out to see the scenery every morning! When my boyfriend and I return to Boracay we will definitely stay at Dave's! The experience there was excellent! I recommend Dave's for their wonderful service and hospitality.

July 11, 2007; Hi Janet! Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for the delightful stay at your Inn!!  We really had a wonderful time and have recommended you to some friends who are coming to Boracay in August...I know they're excited to come stay with you!! Thanks so much for the Wonderful hospitality!!  We really appreciated Joan picking us up from the Airport!  She was so welcoming and helpful!!  She is extremely customer oriented and I loved how she remembered our names so quickly!  We were very impressed and immediately felt at home with her!  :) If we ever come back, we will definitely be staying with you (if you have room for us!)  Thanks again for everything!!  Cheers! Jessica, Alan and Jenna  :)

July 13, 2007; Thank you too for being a part of a wonderful Boracay vacation!!! We appreciated your attentiveness and politeness each day we were in Boracay! Boy, do we brag about our stay at Dave's!!! We have relatives contemplating about going to Boracay this winter break and we highly recommend your place. We were not disappointed at all! 99.99% of everything I read about your place was true! I would love to take family back to Boracay again, and without a doubt; stay with you again, and again, and again...Best regards to everyone!!! Keep up the good work - our family is counting on you for our next trip to Boracay....!!!! Pilar, Elmer, Kristina and Matthew

"a gem of a place", Manila  Jul 14, 2007; Dave's Straw hat is a gem in Boracay. Tucked inside station 3 away from the noisy crowd on the beachfront. Rooms are esconced in a beautiful lush garden ( best rooms are rooms 3 to 6 ). Manned by a super friendly staff ( hello Jenny, Jingjing, Joan and the rest of the J's, specially the owner, Janet ) and "guarded" by dog Freckles ( who is really a pussycat ), it is your home away from home. It also has a mini library where one is tempted to spend hours just reading while sipping delicious mango iced tea. Can't wait to go back there...Bravo-Semilla Family Quezon City, Manila Philippines

=================================================

""A Hidden Gem of Hospitality!"", Minnesota  Jul 17, 2007; A month after our stay at Dave's, and we still rave about the kind of accommodation we had! It is a quaint little resort, three minute walk to the beach. It has showers at every corner of the lot; which is very welcoming after a swim from the sea. The staff is very attentive and courteous: Dean, Rex, Janet, Joanne,Jing, Mayete(?) and the other Janet! The bedrooms(good size - there were four of us in the family: a double bed with a pull out for the two kids) and bathrooms were cleaned everyday; clean sheets (they could use some new sheets though) and fresh towels everyday. Loved the library! The kids borrowed books from there. When it was time to leave, and my son had not finished the book, he ended up buying it. The food was great! You have to have the mango ice tea - everyday! It is a treat you can't find anywhere! The staff were very accommodating, they even bought us some coal so we could roast marshmallows...so we had a marshmallow roasting party that one night and also an ice cream and mango float party, another night. We were more than glad that the staff wer able to join us! It was like having an extended family! Our kids are asking to go back to Boracay and insist that we stay with Dave's Straw Hat Inn again - and my husband and I say: "That's a no-brainer!"

"Great atmosphere and service", Australia, Jul 17, 2007; This place was fantastic. They begin your stay with a free fruit shake on arrival, and continue your entire stay with smiles, great service, friendly interactions regarding all queries and a safe secure environment my 3 & 5 year old kids were happy to play in. We stayed in the deluxe room 3 with the kids and it was great. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to retreat in a quieter area of Boracay with only a 2 minute walk to the beach front, 5 minute trike ride to the main part of White Beach, great food and an absolute bargain for the price. If there was any flaw it would be the pillows and linen but u forget those things very quickly with everything else they offer. Highly recommended.
=================================================

"Lucky with the weather!", Hong Kong  Jul 22, 2007; We have just returned from an eight night stay at Dave's. We went with not that high expectations as we knew it was the rainy season but it turned out that we were very lucky with the weather, having clear blue skies every day. It wouldn't have mattered though if we hadn't had great weather, as Dave's is set up to cater for rainy days - the friendly staff are more than willing to pass an hour chatting with you and they have an extensive book collection as well as a large selection of satellite tv channels and DVD players on standby in case of rain. The main attraction of Dave's is the attentiveness of the staff, which starts from the moment you email with a query, and includes meeting guests at Caticlan airport to guide you back, yummy complimentary mango ice tea on arrival at Dave's, to assisting with organising day trips through to immaculately cleaned rooms. We thought Dave's was great value for money as the rooms are clean and modern, and the location is quiet (in Boracay it is an advantage to be off the beach!) but only a couple of minutes from one of the nicer sections of the beach. We would definitely recommend Dave's to anyone looking for a quieter side of Boracay.

"Great place to stay", NM  Jul 22, 2007; Wonderful place to stay.. hated to leave. What makes Dave's great is the people. Everyone's goal at Dave's is to make you feel at home and they do a great job of it. Dave's is not a five-star (thank God) but the service is better than most that are called five stars. If you need to hook up with island-hopping tours, scuba diving @ Calypso divers whatever. the girls at Dave's can help.. One more mango-ice- tea please.. Salamat. Rooms are exceptionally clean and well kept. The small refrigerators stocked with drinks and prices that are amazing. The room prices are more than reasonable for what you get.  Hello to everyone!! Jen, I checked my suitcase and you were not in it. Janet please give Freckles an ear rub from me. Thanks for the great stay and we hope to see you again soon. Greg, Fatima & Kala

Jul 24, 2007; Dear Janet, After over a week of settling into reality, we're ready to go back.  I am still amazed at the hospitality of everyone at Dave's Straw Hat Inn, to the point that  it would sound corny and corny and repetitive on the Trip Advisor surveys...I travel frequently and the level of courtesy, kindness and "smileness" (I just made up a word...) is comparable, if not better than those I've experienced in...as long as I can remember.  How do you do it? In close, I look forward to visiting again, and would like advice on how far in advance we should book a room.  I may plan a trip in November and again in May to bring family from the states (and maybe even my cousin). Sincerest thanks and kind regards, Rolly

"the bird nest", manila  Jul 24, 2007; It was my first time to go in Boracay with my uncle. it was my birthday gift to myself to have a vacation at Boracay. First we travel for an hour from manila to Kalibo via Cebu pacific and it takes 45 mins then land transfer via Shuttle Van for 2 hours from Kalibo to Caticlan then ferry boat from Caticlan ferry port to Boracay island. We stay at Dave's Straw Hat Inn it found at Station 3 of Boracay the place is awesome garden style with accommodating personnels, great room accommodations and great foods.

"No words can describe how nice the people here on this hotel...they are very accomodating specially if you request something or ask ideas which are the best they will always give you a smile and a very truthful answer especially the prices if u want to go for boat riding and stuff..i will surely recommend this because friendly people is important if your running a business like this..good job!! Thank you..see u again..." grace, Philippines, July 2007

Warm And Wonderful" California, USA  Aug 4, 2007; Wonderful staff?wonderful rooms. Janet and the staff make you feel like a guest in their home rather than just another client in a hotel, they go way beyond the norm to make you feel at home (and that?s saying something given the famous Philippine hospitality). One of the staff members gave me part of her dinner when she heard I was hungry and there was nothing open nearby (when was the last time a hotel staff member shared their dinner with you at their expense?). Only 1 minute walk from the beach?But a ?million miles? from the noise, hustle & bustle. If you?re looking for a large hotel with reserved and stuffy staff don?t go to Dave?s Straw Hat Inn but if you?re looking for a place that?s quite, charming, friendly and a great value for the money (I would have paid twice the amount happily...really). Dave?s Straw Hat Inn will always be my first choice for accommodations when visiting Boracay because I now have new found friends working at Dave?s Straw Hat Inn. Thank you for being part of a wonderful visit to the Philippines. Craig, California, USA

"Great Place!" Seoul  Aug 6, 2007; Booked the room online based on a review from a friend. Wasn't quite sure what to expect after having a bad experience in Manila. We were pleasantly surprised! The staff were great, took excellent care of us. The rooms were great, very clean and spacious. The location was great, just a short walk to the beach. On top of all that, Janet makes the best burgers on the island. Would go back in a heartbeat, tomorrow if I could!

"Felt like home" London  Aug 7, 2007; Staff are very friendly, made us feel at home! Accommodation is great, clean, excellent for the price, couldn't ask for more. Wish we could have stayed longer, next time will make sure I book more in advance. Oh and did I mention how nice the staff are! No joke. Thanks for all at Dave's Straw Hat that made us feel welcome.

"Mango Ice Tea" Busan Aug 20, 2007; It goes without saying that our stay on Boracay was only made better by staying at Dave's. Friendly staff, prompt communication via e-mail and those really tasty mango-ice tea shakes made the place worth every penny. They even granted a request made at the last minute!! (Flowers and wine, a nice touch, gents.) The one thing that made Dave's satnd above most places I have stayed at throughout Asia, is the fact that the pictures on the website do not lie. They are not touched up or enhanced, the place really looks that good!! Combine that with an owner who gives you good advice, books outings for you and who will chat it up like one of your old pals, and you have got yourself a quality stay on a beautiful island. Many thanks again to the staff for making our stay so comfortable enjoyable. Yvon and Amanda

"Excelente!!!" Olga Lucia Robledo..............Colombia.

Dave's Straw Hat inn is one of the best places that we have stayed in throughout our travels. This is purely because of the staff! They are genuinely like one big happy family! It is very obvious that they love what they do and that they really love and respect their boss! No request made by us was ever denied and every tour operator, including the dive shop was fantastic! The rooms, the whole inn in fact, is kept spotless and the food was delicious (especially those Burritos!). It was also wonderful being able to stay on the quiet side of White Beach Boracay! We loved being part of the Dave's Straw Hat Inn family for 10 days, and truly hope to be back there someday soon! Paul and Gerri, August 24, 2007.

"Hi there!!! I visited Boracay with my girlfriend during August 2007. It was a low-season and Philippines were hit by 3 typhoons on the month. However during our stay there, we were spared by the weather and had a very pleasant stay in Boracay. During our planning, Asia Rooms is one of the many websites we visited to look for some very good hotels which we can afford. From here, we came across Dave's Straw Hat Inn and from the reviews we saw, it added to our confidence of booking with Dave's. On our visit, we were very happy with the services and warmth given by the staffs at Dave's. All of the staffs there truly treat you as part of their family and that's what that makes them stand out for me. We stayed in a Standard Cottage just right in front of their service desk. It was very clean. They clean up he room every day and will arrange everything nicely for you. There's not a worry about them stealing from you as they are truly nice people. Besides their warmth, they serve nice meals. Although it took quite some time for them to prepare, the meals are worth waiting for. My personal favourite drink is the Mango Ice Tea which keeps me fresh. Their fried rice is very nice too. They provide lots of amenities and facilities such as basic toiletries, towels, cable tv, wifi, karaoke, book reading and exchange, sun block and tan lotions, towels for the beach, laundry services and information about activities in Boracay. The downside of Dave's would be that it requires some walking from Station 3. It is located not far from the beach but you have to go through some narrow pathways which have some renovation work along it. Because it is located near Station 3, it was rather a distance from Station 2, which happens to be the happening lively place. It would require about 30 minute walk from Dave's to Station 2. Between Station 1 and 2 would be excellent. Unless you are there to unwind and not for any nightlife, then Dave's is te excellent place. Maybe we went during the off peak and there were less people, thus it looks dull near Dave's. However, I have to emphasize that Dave's provide really good service and the warmth from the staffs just puts my mind off every negative points about Dave's location. It is truly a wonderful place to stay in. I miss the place and all the staffs! I have never ever met such hosts on holiday and they are simply the best!!!"  Adam, Malaysia, August 2007

"Great place and staff"  Milan, Aug 24, 2007 We spent 6 days at Dave's Straw Hat Inn, and they made our stay memorable. The place is quite lovely and quiet, a cosy paradise set amidst a tropical garden, just a few steps away from the hustle and bustle of Boracay's White Beach nocturnal life. The staff (the J-team and the others) is friendly, smiling and always willing to lend a hand. Rooms are truly kept clean and comfortable, and the a/c operates perfectly. Guests we got acquainted with were also very nice, and that's because of the general laid back atmosphere created by the staff. I really can say that I miss them. We'd definitely go back there if we took another trip to Boracay. Nicoletta Fraschini & Raffaele Caporale Milan, Italy

To Dave?s Straw Hat Inn Family,  Every experience in life is always made more memorable by the people you meet along the way. We could have been just paying customers to you but you made us feel like friends. We were strangers to you but you but didn?t feel it because of the warm personal attention you accorded to us the first time, the second time, and hopefully, God?s willing, the several times we will be there in the future. To our friends and acquaintances, we will tell them that your place, besides having the comforts at home, has a way of making you wish it is really your home. We can?t thank you enough but as you say in business, the word of mouth is the best publicity. At our end, recommending your place is not exactly a favor to you but a way of sharing the feeling we had when we were there- being pampered at no extra cost at all.  Please extend our thanks and gratitude to all your staff and give Freckles our hugs!!! And you guys keep the most of it.

Danke sch?n, Tobi and Tatum, September 03, 2007

 "Fantastic Resort" bobsnail, South West  Sep 22, 2007 When i priced up Boracay there were a number of hotels in the running. Most were really expensive (Fridays anyone?) and seemed to offer less. The reviews for Daves were excellent, the rooms looked nice, and the home away from home ethos really grabbed me, so my girlfriend and I stayed for 12 days and we are very glad we did. The rooms are nice, typically (in the likes of Cuba, Dom Rep etc) a 4 star hotel is actually more like a 3 or 2 star in the west. I wont say the rooms are amazing but they are simple and of a high enough standard to please anyone. They are clean and look fresh and new. No problems here. The grounds are immaculate, again this isnt a massive place, just a few secluded semi detached maisonettes. The grounds look like a garden centre display, with perfect pathways and well pruned and well placed greenery. Customer service is where the staff at Daves excel, they will meet you at the airport, Are always bright and chirpy and really do treat you as friends rather than customers. They all take great pride in the work and obviously enjoy it. - Free suntan/aftersun cream available at reception if you run out / - Snorkel and mask loan / - Fairly large book library (multi language) / - Ability to rent a DVD player and some good titled DVDs (for sunburnt or hung over times) / - BBQ station -The fridge is restocked daily at the ssame prices you will fine in the shops (most places charge a premium for using the minibar) Basically a lot of thought has gone into this place.Food is availble and nice, although slightly limited to burgers, buritos (breakfast burito...yum) and a few ricey dishes. Ideal for breakfast or if in a rush though. The location is good down at boat station 3, however there is a small walk amongst some local buildings to get in/out of Daves. This isnt a problem, but i can help thinking i would mind if my house had tourists outside all the time. The beach at boat station 3 isnt quite as nice as the rest (recommend walking up the beach a bit). This has benefits though.... its quieter, which means more relaxing and less boatman and street hawkers. Up around boat station 2 there are many and it does start to annoy with the constant pestering and sales tactics, no such problems around Daves though On the whole id go back to Boracay again and When i go back i will stay at Daves, the best (And probally cheapest) place on the island. Hi to everyone at Daves, and keep up the good work guys :-) PS. the room has a safe, but i never felt i had to use it (If i left something out i was never worried). The tips i left out for the maid were never taken and i had to insist at the end of the holiday (tipping is not that common in boracay)

"Like Staying With Family" mlewis457, Virginia  Sep 23, 2007 My wife, 5-year-old son and I stayed at Dave's Straw Hat Inn in mid August for a few days. We knew it would be great based on the reviews we saw here. We were not disappointed. The whole time we were treated like welcome family members. I was impressed at how they dispatched a staffer (Janet #2) to meet us at the Caticlan airport and personally guide us to the hotel - which is some distance away. It made the trip go so much easier. Thanks to both Janets! What a memorable trip and the price was so reasonable. The room was cheery and comfortable. If we are lucky enough to get back to Boracay, we'll be staying at Dave's Straw Hat Inn.

"Dave's Straw Hat Hideaway" Doctor_SNevada, Nevada  Sep 24, 2007 Dave's Straw Hat Inn is a cozy little hideaway off the beaten path with all the amenities of a large resort hotel at a small per cent of the cost. The staff is friendly, efficient and cater to your every need. Everything is reasonably priced and delivered with a smile. The room was comfortable, cozy and roomy. My fiancee and I spent 11 days at Dave's and were sad to leave this little bit of Paradise. The food was masarap, the service fantastic and the staff and management friendly. Dave's is a great getaway and everyone there whistled or sang while they worked.

"Best Time Ever"  ericrz71, USA  Oct 4, 2007 The straw hat is the place to be in boracay. It is a small hotel so you get to meet all the staff and know each by name by the time you leave. Me and a mate of mine stayed for a week and although the weather could have been better the staff at the hotel were always smiling and helping us find activities to do. It was reall nice to come back to the hotel after a day out on the island and be greeted by name. If you are looking to be away from he major tourist hotels this is the best on the islands. I definetly plan on returning and when I do I will be staying at the straw hat again. Thanks to Dave and Janet and all the other J's that work there, I had a great time.

"Fantastic!" ksjinaus, sydney  Oct 6, 2007 Well what can I say about this place. The title just about sums it all up. Sure I read all those reviews and things before i booked but still you never know what to expect, right? Wrong! I can tell you exactly what to expect. Just what all those other reviews are telling you! Worried about paying the deposit or even the full amount in advance like i did. Then don't be. Take it from me it's perfectly safe! From the greeting and the mango iced tea you get when you arrive there until the sad time when you have to leave you can be sure the gang at Daves will look after you. You are not treated like just another guest but more like a brother or sister. They will always be there witha warm and friendly smile to greet you and help you in anyway they can. Daves itself is situated at the quieter boat staion 3. It's about a minute or so from the beach hidden away down a lane. it's a good idea to call them to help you with your baggage and show you the way when you arrive. They will be only too pleased to come and meet you. It's quiet and peaceful and relaxing yet still close enough to any nightlife or anything else you want. The rooms are very clean and tidy and perfectly adequate. We had a cottage. Don't know about the other types of rooms but I expect they would be good too! I certainly didn't hear any complaints from any other guests and we talked to lots of them while we were there. The place just breeds this sort of family togetherness between staff and all the guests. The menu is a little limited but basically if you ask them in adavance they can get you anything you want. Oh and a little word of warning. Unless you're feeling really very hungry don't do what i did and order pancakes for breakfast. I was expecting a couple of small pancakes to fill a small hole in my stomach. What i got was 2 pancakes each the size of the plate. between them i had banana filling. this thing stood more than an inch high. Two of us tried to eat and only after a rest and a second attempt did we manage to complete the task. By the way Janet reckons the cookie is called for if food is left on the plate to explain what was wrong with it hehehe! Would I recommend this place to anybody? Sure but only if they are not going there at the same time as I am. The place is small and you need to book early so i want to make sure there is still room for me! You can forget all those highly priced resorts. I wouldn't go there if they were free. When I go back to Boracay I know there is only one place im staying. Daves.

"Just like family.....quiet and restful too" Claudius16309, Atlanta, GA, USA  Oct 18, 2007 Dave's is an awesome place to stay. The service makes all of the difference in the world. They treat you like family from the moment you arrive. My wife became "best friends" in the week we stayed with Joanne, and Janet and Janice were also awesome. This place is nice and quiet, and a very short walk to the beach. If you're looking for restful and relaxed, you should definitely stay here.

"Wonderful Staff and Incredible Value!" there-goes-Dave, Thailand  Oct 23, 2007 Dave's Straw Hat Inn is a great value. The staff is friendly and helpful. The 9 rooms include modern conveniences (hot water; a/c; refrigerator; phone; tv; safe). It's a great deal for what you get. I highly recommend it!

"Perfect place in Boracay" supermanjo, Germany  Oct 30, 2007 We spend a couple of days at Daves and would have liked to stay longer, but this place is often fully booked. So be early to enjoy this jewel. Staff is extemly friendly and helpful, which makes you really feel like home. This was the perfect address for the first days on the Philippines. The rooms are clean and comfortable and have aircondition, fan, TV, private bath and WLAN access. Next time we definetly go for this place again. Many thanks to Janet and the team Steffi and Jo from Germany

Hi!  Thank you for your very warm welcome and assistance to us during our stay in Boracay. We surely enjoyed our trip to this beautiful island and your help even made it more memorable. We certainly commend your friendly and accommodating assistance to us as well as the relaxing and homey place that you have. Dave's Straw Hat Inn is definitely a "home away from home." Again, thank you very much and we hope to be back there again. God bless and regards to everybody. Pam, October 31, 2007

"loved it" hasina3, Malaysia  Oct 31, 2007 I stayed at Dave's with 3 friends and we all loved it...the rooms are perfectly clean, the garden seems like an oasis and the food is really good. They provide a lot of little services which ensure a relaxing stay there...massage in your room, books to rent for free, laundry, internet, restaurant... It's a nice place to relax as it's very quite but still all the bars and restaurants are within walking distance. Dave's is near station 3 and I think that this part of the beach is better than around station 2, it's not that crowded and you always find a free sun chair and an umbrella (if you stay at Dave's you can also use the facilities of Blue Mango which is right on the beach). But the best thing was the friendlyness of the staff. They really care about you and try to make your holidays as nice as possible. Thanks a lot for the pleasant stay and send our regards to Freckles ;) Ina

"Dave's Straw Hat Inn is the BEST!!!!", mesquite, Texas Nov 5, 2007This was our third stay at Dave's Straw Hat Inn in less than 12 months, and without a doubt, we will be back there just as soon as possible. Dave & Janet and their wonderful staff always go out of their way to make sure our stay is as comfortable as possible, and it is the attention they give to the smallest details that make it more like a home-away-from-home than just another resort visit. I not only recommend Dave's Straw Hat Inn to all my friends and other travelers I meet, but I actually brag that bungalow #5 is like my own little private escape to paradise. (Dave's even tries to reserve the same room for us so return stays are even more comfortable and familiar... remember,it's the 'little details'.) Dave's Straw Hat Inn gets our vote as THE BEST!!!!! Dennis & Jenny

We had a great -but definitely too short- time at your inn, in Boracay, and in the Philippines. Due to shortage of time, for us it was just a quick sample of your great country and its lovely people, but it was enough to know and to decide that we have to return there by all means.  Boracay is on the top of my "return list", and if I go, I will definitely stay with you guys. I enjoyed your hospitality a lot. All the staff was so kind, especially Dimple (I'm sure I misspelled her name, but I hope you know who I mean. :-)), who was the sweetest person we met in the Philippines. She was so helpful and cheerful, she even tried to stop the rain for us. She was so determined that we tend to believe that the only sunny day we had there was her achievement. :-) Please say hello to her from us. Well, we're back to work in cold Hungary, but we are still loaded with the good memories of our trip. We keep recommending to our friends to go to Boracay and stay at your inn. :-) I hope to be back soon, until then, keep up the good work, the great attitude and the cheerfulness! :-) Please say hello and thanx to Dave and all the staff (including Freckles, of course).Take care, wishing you all the best! Regards, Robert, Hungary, November 09, 2007.

"Memorable Stay on Boracay Island, Philippines"Singapore  Nov 29, 2007  I came across Dave's Straw Hat Inn via internet search and was enticed by the pictures and good reviews given by guests who had stayed there during their visit to Boracay island. And so I gave it a try on Oct 2007. Dave's Straw Hat Inn is located away from the crowded Station 2 and the room rates are reasonably priced for the type of xcellent service rendered by the staff to their guests. It's simply a value-for-money bargain on boracay. In addition, the staff are crazily friendly, occasionally dancing and hopping around (trust me, they would make you leave their front gate each day with a smile) and greet you with their friendly smiles. The hi-fi system in the patio wow, plays a good list of songs that put my mind n heart at ease while I enjoyed my special order of grilled lapu lapu and prawns!!  Upon my first day of arrival at Dave's, I was greeted with Mango Iced Tea which I badly needed to quench my thirst and i was greeted by staff n Freckles, the dog! The environment is exactly home-like and the garden-concept units is simply therapeutic, exactly the same as what was posted on the internet website. And to top it up, the staff would extend their service to ensure my stay in boracay is one relaxing n problem-free vacation. They arranged my spa-massage session & fixed my sandals when it broke apart !! It was my favorite pair... The finale was they ordered me a birthday cake to surprise me on my birthday!!! i typically enjoyed the serenity n quiet location of Dave's Straw Hat Inn (Station 3). If you are looking for an affordable priced stay within acceptable standards and only a 15min walk to D'mall, I would highly recommend Dave's Straw Hat Inn on Boracay island. Andrea

"Loved the place and the staff" First at all ... hello to everyone at Dave's Straw Hat Inn. It began with a very warm welcome and a very delicious Mango-Ice Tea. During our stay at Dave's we felt very welcomed, even our small makulit daughter always disturbe the staff at the frontdesk, always friendly and smiling faces around. The rooms .... we had Room Nr. 3 (Deluxe) was always very clean and is well furnished, the shower with warm and cold water, with a Refrigerator and Aircon. The staff at Dave's is very friendly and have always an open ear. We really felt at home there. Also the beach isn't far away ... just a 2 Minute walk. The restaurants and even the DMall is about a 10-20 Minute walk .... only the lazy people out there really can complain about the location! For us it was a nice and quiet location away from the crowded part of the White Beach. It was not our first time at Boracay and we stayed already in other (expensive!) Resorts but Dave's Straw Hat Inn has something special. We fall in love with this place and will come back definitely again. Maraming, maraming salamat for your services to all of you .... we miss you all. Steffisburg, December 01, 2007.

"Great times!" I stayed in Dave's Straw Hat Inn for three nights. Dave's Straw Hat Inn is a great place for romantic couples. Staff are warm, friendly and very helpful, even if guests need to know about tour excursions. Cottage room is clean, quiet, peaceful, well-pleased and has good air conditioner. Meals are very good and inexpensive. The atmosphere in the surrounding cottages is cozy and good natured. Wholeheartedly, I want to thank you very much for made my stay wonderful, enjoyable and great memories. I recommend my friends and new guests to check in there and enjoy great times. I will definitely plan to book & check in Dave's Straw Hat Inn room some day near future. California Dec 28, 2007

"Dave's Inn is number One!" We, a family of two adults and a teenage daughter, enjoyed two weeks of the extraordinary hospitality offered by Dave's Strawhat Inn in December 2007. The cheery staff made us feel at home from day one, and provided excellent service all the time. Our family room was neat and had just what we needed, and we highly appreciated the well laid out and maintained communal areas. So after this our third visit to Boracay, we challenge any to find a hotel in Boracay that provide better value for money. Dave's Strawhat Inn is number one!!! Thor Erik Wetteland and family. "A peaceful haven, no wonder it is No1" It was my second visit to Boracay, the first time Dave's was just being completed. I went alone and am middle aged so was older than most visitors to Boracay.The staff looked after me so well, always smiling and interested. I had a fan room which was very comfortable, spotlessly clean with clean bedding and beautifully folded towels each day. The safety box in each room make looking after documents etc so easy. The food was delicious and I even had surprise banana fritters because I happened to mention I liked them. If you want a good massage (not an oily rub) go and find Lobert who is blind and has his couch just passed Red Pirates further down on the beach track. He is there every day except Sundays with his wife. Back to Dave's Straw Hat Inn - I'll be back to enjoy comfort, caring and hospitality second to none. Thank you Jen and crew, and Freckles. "Great Place To Stay!" Travelled to Boracay with my 9 yr. old daughter, mom and brother for 4 days/3 nights in December 2007. I chose Dave's Straw Hat Inn based on the reviews from TripAdvisor and what a place! The property is immaculate, well maintained. Room 9 is situated directly in front of the communal area/reception desk; Room 10 is in the back, behind the kitchen,which has a narrow spiral staircase. You can eat at the surrounding restaurants but I recommend to eat onsite; their food is great plus if there's something you like that's not on the menu, let the chefs know & they'll do the grocery shopping & cooking for you! DVDs, books are available @ front desk; wireless internet available too. Customer service is awesome - thx to Dave, Javid, Jenny, Dimples, Jhing, Joann,Arlene & Arvin. The surrounding area around DSHI will alarm you & make you wonder if you made the right choice but I can assure you, you'll get past all that. Dave's Straw Hat Inn is literally a hidden jewel amongst those beaten paths...San Diego, Jan 8, 2008

"Great place!" My boyfriend and I loved our stay at Dave's Straw Hat Inn! Everybody there was very friendly and welcoming. They made us feel at home straight away. As for our room, it was cozy and clean -- just how I like it. The whole place itself exudes a warmth that makes it feel good to come back to after a day at the beach. We'd definitely stay at Dave's Straw Hat Inn again. Thanks to everybody there who made our vacation together even more special. See you again soon! Ina,  Manila, Jan 13, 2008

Hi Janet,  I hope all of you is well. You've got a very gorgeous and romantic place.We did love the privacy and the cleanliness. Also you have a good cook,we enjoyed our meals. We also want to thank you and all your staff for being so nice and accommodating. My parents too was in awe, co'z you've got a beautiful place,  so many plants. The whole concept of your design is perfect. I wish we have stayed longer but we have work  to do. But Bob have promised me that we will definitely come back to your place. Manila,a busy place as always, traffic and everything.  Freckles is a very handsome dog, I'm sure when my sweety (dog) see him she will like him...hehehe. Keep smiling! thank you & best regards, G. "Home Spun Straw Hat" Crashing at your own room at Dave's home is perfect for a laid-back, comfortable stay at Boracay. Lots of natural light and ventilation everywhere make Dave's perfectly cool and bright during the skin crisping hours of midday. The place is very green; cozy walkways weave through lush home-garden style vegetation,creating the illusion of them going on forever - very Filipino. The greenery provides little pockets of privacy throughout the place, which is kept squeaky clean. The owners, a very cute couple, will go out of their way to ensure that the objectives of your trip are met. They also show sincere concern for your well-being. The staff at Dave's are very accommodating and sweet; the type to immediately make you feel as though you've known them forever. Customer service is great - will give you great advice on anything, as will Jenny, the groovy young "concierge" - whose cheery banter is welcome during the sometimes lengthy waits for food orders. There are a small number of rooms, allowing for a smaller staff, which fosters an atmosphere that is intimate and familiar. The breezy common area, home to an awesome library, is central to the entire site plan. The general feeling is one of simplicity, warmth and familial hospitality. We would definitely recommend it. "Dave's Straw Hat a peaceful oasis"  annaeichorn Victoria, Canada Feb 27, 2008  After beaching, it a short walk to Dave's Straw Hat Inn where you enter the solitude of a lush, vibrant garden. This boutique inn provides an oasis from the busyness of the main beach. A cozy reception, library, soft music, and seating throughout the beautiful gardens enhances this ambiance. The beach is beautiful and boasts the cheapest drinks on the strip at happy hour with plenty of areas to sit and watch the sunset. Our family of three adults loved the deluxe room. Beds are comfortable and clean. Everything worked which is not always the case on Boracay. Rooms offer a quiet sleep away from the noisy rap music and activity near DMall. Though Dave's was one of four places we stayed, (Dave could accommodate us for 5 of 15 days) it is the place we would come back to again. After booking out we returned to ask staff for help in securing a hotel in Manila. Would they assist, we wondered? "You are my responsibility not just while you stay here," Dave said, "but as long as you are on the Islands." Thanks Dave, thanks staff.  -Cynthia, Ted, Mike Bailey-

"Great Service ! ! !"  joel1316  Pittsburg, CA Mar 4, 2008  Just got back from the Philippines and our trip from Boracay. We stayed at Dave's and found ourselves staying at "my favorite Uncle's House" instead of just some hotel on the island. Dave's is located back in the neighborhood where you have to pass some private residences. The location was safe and friendly so it wasn't a problem or anything. The room we stayed in was a bit tiny, but it was fine for my wife, son and myself. The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was clean and dry, which is hard to find in the Philippines. Our room had AC, ceiling fan and a stocked refrigerator which helped out on those warm nights when you are just too lazy to leave the room. The AC was strong and cooled down the room fast after an afternoon of cruising the "strip". We had a couple of meals at Dave's and they were great! I loved the pancake with mango and bananas, I usually only find stuff like that at fine restaurants....Dave's Straw Hat Inn is great! I wish it was a bit closer to the beach though, but you can't have everything I guess. Once inside the location, you feel like you are in paradise with no worries to ever think about. The staff, well let me tell you about the staff... You will not find another crew more dedicated, more friendlier and caring anywhere else on the Earth! They helped us with our activities on the islands, told of us some local things to do and even confirmed our flight back to Manila. When we checked out, the staff came out to say goodbye and to wish us a safe trip home. I don't think those big Boracay resorts can treat their customers like Dave's staff does...I would not hesitate to recommend Dave's to anyone. Thank you to Dave and his friendly staff, can't wait to come back! Joel, Janette and Sean  =================================================

"Enjoyed the smiles!!!!!!!" RPMission Baguio City Mar 11, 2008 Just want to say that our vacation to Dave's Straw Hat Inn was very relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed the friendly smiles and we really enjoyed the complimentary Mango iced tea "slush" when we arrived early, which by the way seemed to be no problem for the staff as there was a nice little area with a ceiling fan to wait in. Thank you Janet, Joan, and Jenny for the great time!!! We will definitely recommend your establishment to all that asks us about where to stay at Boracay. John

"For personalized comfort" aznative007  phoenix Mar 15, 2008  We stayed in Daves Straw Hat Inn Boracay...Feb to March. We had the best time. Not only were the staff great, they were the best. I was greeted with a smile everyday. I was called by my name. My room was cleaned on a daily basis. I have a million and one pictures to upload, but will up load them another time. My favorite staff...Esia (I think that is how her name is spelled), shy but charming. The smile on her face would brighten any room...I just wanted to say a special thanks to Janet and her staff of having us as a guest and being part of the Straw Hat Family. All good things must come to an end, I am now back at work. Thinking of the next time I will return to my home away from home. I miss all the staff there at Straw Hat Inn. Again thank you for letting me be part of your family. Andy and Mark

Hello from Seattle"renato1990 Seattle Mar 25, 2008 hmm what can I say about my stay at your resort.. My brother and I had a wonderful time during our visit in Boracay. Janet and her friendly staff went above and beyond to cater to us. We felt so welcome, kinda liked long lost relatives rather than paying guest. The place is peaceful, relaxing and just wonderful. To sum it all we do highly recommend it!!! Hoped to see you guys and gals soon.. maybe in a couple of years.

"A faultless stay at Dave's." HappyCamper84, London, Apr 9, 2008, I have just come back from a wonderful stay at Dave's Straw Hat Inn on the beautiful island of Boracay. It was so nice after such a long journey to be given such a warm welcome...the staff instantly made us feel at home and presented us with a lovely iced tea, their own recipe. We were put in a cottage next to our friends' which was nice. The rooms were good and very clean with towels on the bed folded into flowers - a very nice touch! They were cleaned daily to a very high standard. The bar/restaurant area was a lovely place to sit and read and have a cold beer at the end of the day. The whole place is planted with gorgeous, lush tropical plants and flowers which hang over the little pathways that lead to the different cottages. At night there are lights in the trees and along the paths and a candle is put on your terrace to keep the mosquitos away. It was thoughtful touches like this that made the stay even more pleasurable. It was also very useful to have wireless internet and an abundance of books you could  borrow/exchange/buy. The island itself is beautiful, and the inn is 3 minutes walk from White Beach which is one of the nicest I have ever seen. Because the inn is set back from the beach a little, it is much quieter and peaceful than those that are right on it. The sunsets especially are amazing. I recommend to anyone coming to Boracay to stay at Dave's and I would definately stay there again if I came back. The staff are so wonderful and helpful and really do assist to your every need, whether it be doing your laundry or giving advice on island activities

"Perfect" litrato101 Philippines Apr 28, 2008  The place is well taken cared off and everybody is very accomodating. The staff has good local knowledge and gives recommedations as to what activities are worth pursuing and where to fill our empty tummies. I appreciate that they know the guests by their names. I also like the fact that their location is away from the noise and large resorts.

"Dave's is the best." Seattle May 8, 2008 Dave's Straw Hat Inn had excellent reviews on the internet. But my husband and I did not expect to also get color coordinated linens and sented bath towels at those prices. Nothing beats sitting out on your bungalow patio at night, with the staff lit candles and tree lights, listening to a tropical evening. Dorothy and Oldi Alt Bellevue, Washington, USA

 "We miss Dave's (and the Philippines)!!!" I stayed at Dave's for five nights with my boyfriend. Firstly, the room type we originally wanted was fully booked for the first three days of our trip so the team kindly upgraded us to a superior room for those days, for the same price. So we were feeling fairly positive about the trip before even arriving. It didn't disappoint - Dave, Janet and the whole team were so helpful and friendly - by far the most hospitable people we stayed with in the Philippines. They were able to answer any questions we had and went out of their way to help whenever they could, even rebooting the wireless router when our internet temporarily stopped working. The rooms were in good condition and felt really homely. Sure, they may not be as plush as some of the 5 star resorts on the island, but for the price you pay and given the atmosphere of the place, we'd go for Dave's every time. Really, the only problem we had was finding the biggest spider I have ever seen in our room one night. But hey, it's the tropics, it's going to happen some time. Oh, and the food is great at Dave's too. And being British, I really appreciated the variety of teas on the menu! Another positive - it's slightly off the beach, away from the crowd. It can get quiet noisy in the thick of it, so it's nice having a garden retreat to es. CalamityKatie  cape to at the end of the day. It's quite a walk to the mall and the restaurants around it, but it's easy enough to stroll along the beach or pick up a tricycle on the main road. All in all, a big thumbs upLondon June 08, 2008

Hello all, Once again I had a fantastic time staying at your inn. I can't say enough about your establishment and the staff you have! Dave's Straw Hat Inn still remains the best bargain on Boracay Island! This was our 2nd stay in two years and the Inn only gets better with time. The staff remain some of the most courteous you will encounter in the hotel industry. The rooms are kept clean, the service is great, and the food is even better than ever. I recommend this Inn to anybody who is looking for a great place to stay on the island! With less than a minute walk to the beach, you cannot beat the convenience and the location. We will be back soon! All the best! Joe & Helena Riyadh, Saudi Arabia June 13, 2008

"Best in Boracay" We spent 6 nights at Dave's and had the best time ever. We arrived and were welcomed with mango iced teas and shown to our room. The rooms have all the amenities you need, cable TV, hot and cold water, comfortable bed(s) and are kept in a clean and tidy condition. The food at Dave's are great and I now am addicted to banana pancakes. Prices are very reasonable and somewhat cheaper than the bars and restaurants on the beach. What makes Dave's number 1 on Boracay is the staff. We have travelled all over the world and cannot remember finding such friendly and accommodating staff. When we were there Janet was away visiting family but Jenny and the girls along with Dave and Freckles made us feel so welcome. If you want to know anything about what trips are on offer just speak to someone at Dave's and they will guide you in the right direction and normally at a discounted rate. We had to leave a couple of days early and Jenny managed to rent our room out for 1 of those 2 nights. We are so confident we will return to Boracay we have asked that instead of returning the rate achieved for that rental it goes on our account and we will get a discount off our next visit. matt180881 Bristol, June 16, 2008

"This place is great" Dave's Straw Hat Inn is a great place to stay. It's peaceful and cozy. We loved the tree-lined pathway and the books. though, i admit that i didn't have time to read, but i would definitely find time to read their books when i go back there. the staff were really friendly and accommodating. their service is really good especially about recommending which activities do while in boracay. For those people who prefer a quiet and tranquil place, this is definitely the place for you. and for the people in Dave's Straw Hat Inn, thank you so much for making our stay a really memorable one. romina422  iloilo city, June 20, 2008

"Mesmerized" It took five planes to get to Boracay and we were really ready to relax at Dave's Straw Hat. Daves is off the beaten path and so it was the kind of place my husband and I like. Dave's is very quiet and layed back. At first I was a little dissapointed in the room as it was small and plain, but it was clean and had air conditioning, also a nice size refrigerator to keep cold beers. After the first night I understood why Dave's is #1 on Trip Advisor. You become MESMERIZED by the place. I'm sure it is the ambience of the gardens, plants and lighting. The staff at Daves is incredible. They were always ready to help with anything that you needed. We ate dinner two nights at Daves and it felt more like home cooking than eating out. It was delicious and very relaxing! One night we came in after eating dinner at one of the many restaurants on White Beach and even though I'm sure the kitchen was closed, we asked the sweet girls that work there for banana splits. In ten minutes they brought them to our room and they were yummy! It is only a short walk to white beach (you are not beach front) If you want a party atmosphere than Daves would not be for you. If you want privacy and great service you should try Daves. By the way when it is time to head back home let the girls at the desk set it up for you. It really made the trip to the boat dock and airport a breeze! Thank you Freckles! (the dog) She was so cute and helped us not feel so bad about leaving our own Ruby behind! Thank you Daves staff for a great time! Islandgirl00765

Its funny when we were still in Manila, we?ve called Dave?s Straw for several times but we couldn?t get through for some reason---maybe due to long distance call. Until one day we?ve finally contacted Ms. Jenny and we had a 4 night?s reservation?..yahooooo. When we arrived at Dave?s last 20Aug2008, we were very surprised at personnel?they are soooooooooo CORTEOUS (jenny) and the facilities are so nice at a very cheap accommodation (it?s like paying less in a luxury place). We didn?t plan to stay for 1 week in Boracay Island but since Dave?s is so great, we actually did stayed for a week hehehehe. Now we are going to Palawan---hope they have Dave?s Straw there too:-)two thumbs up for DAVE?S!!

"Dave's is the Place"Dave's Straw Hat Inn really makes you feel like a part of the family from arrival to departure. From the arrangements made to get us there from the Caticlan airport to our return were both memorable and so smooth it exceeded our expectations. The staff were alway friendly and helpful, always providing a greeting to us. The accomodations were clean and appropriate for an inn of this level. The very tasty blue mango tea given us at arrival was so delicious and  refreshing. Other special touches included mosquito coils burning on the front porch when we returned in the evenings to a meal in the very comfortable xommon dining and relaxation area. Even Freckles the dog was friendly and made this stay so homey for us. I highly recommend a stay at Dave's if you are planning to be on Boarcay for vacation. The short walk to the beach is worth the exchange in the quiet you get being away from the beach. Their arrangements with the Blue Mango Inn for diving and related services, dining discounts, and use of their beach front chairs makes it really a full beach experience. Thanks Janet and All! pepehman Arizona September 23, 2008

"Great as always" We just got back from the Philippines and had to say had a wonderful time as always at Dave's Straw Hat Inn. Jeny and the rest of the gang really go out of there way to help you out with every little thing from the transfer from the airport to playing cards on a rainy day to great pancakes!!!!!! . I can not think of anywhere that I actually miss the staff as much as the resort. If you want a really nice little place with a very helpful friendly staff that feels like a private resort or a bed and breakfast go to Dave's Straw Hat. You will not regret it one bit. I wish more places were like this. TrippedNC  Durham NC September 30, 2008

"Adding to the Praise" There is little I can say about the Straw Hat that has not already been said. Regardless, I feel the need to heap more praise on Dave and the Straw Hat crew after the wonderful week we spent there. Our group of eight people arrived at Caticlan airport on a rainy Saturday morning and were taken care of by the Straw Hat crew from that point onward. From the airport transfers to restaurant & diving recommendations, there was nothing that they couldn't help with. The location was ideal in my opinion ... on the quieter end of the beach, but within only a short walk of the action round Station 2. As others have noted, the fact that the inn is not directly on the beach was not an issue for me ... its only a 1 minute walk to the beach. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The beach near the Straw Hat was absolutely amazing ... I could sit there and stare at it forever. The rooms were sufficiently large and were kept incredibly clean (a miracle given all of the sand I would track in on a daily basis!). We spent a lot of time in the common area eating, reading or playing cards. The food was fantastic and served throughout the day ... I was really surprised I didn't sink to the bottom of the sea after eating all of those mango pancakes. The best part about the Straw Hat is the staff. From the first moment we met them, they made us feel right at home. My (straw) hat goes off to each and every of them ... I hope they take me up on my offer to come work with them!  Dave's Straw Hat Inn represents a fantastic value on Boracay and I can recommend it to others without hesitation. I am already trying to figure out when I can return!  StrudelMonkey  Shanghai, China October 4, 2008

?paradise garden on a paradise island? I made a decision to stay at Dave's after reading other reviews at Tripadvisor, and never regreted it. Nice part of the island - not so crowdy and noisy. Perfect for those, who enjoys sounds of wind and ocean in the evenings. And if you want a party - it is only 15min walk to the bars&disco area, or you can take a trycicle and be there in 5 min.I liked it here because it feels like staying not in a hotel, but at friend's home. Because the place looks not like a hotel, but like a private residence, and because of friendly staff. The garden is now a subject of my envy :). Actually the garden is on the whole territory, and it gives feeling of privacy. I plan to go to Boracay again in January 2009, and I will definately come back to Dave's (if Janet will find a room for me :) Yulia, Moscow November, 2008

?Fantastic Place!!!?We stayed at Dave's Straw Hat Inn for several days in August. The staff were absolutely amazing!!! They were super friendly and extremely helpful. The inn's landscape was quite scenic and our room was very clean. The food was very reasonably priced and quite delicious. The inn is less than a minute walk from the beach and is only about a 10-minute stroll (along the beach) to many of the island's international restaurants (Cyma Greek restaurant was awesome!). We loved the inn and will definitely be staying there if we ever visit Boracay again. Highly recommended. Shawn Seoul, December 16, 2008

?No wonder it is still No1 on Boracay?This is my second stay at Dave's Straw Hat Inn so that says it all. The booking online and payment is so easy, emails are answered immediately with helpul advice. Both my stays have been at the same time of the year and for 9 nights. I had a huge welcome the same as everyone gets with a refreshingly cold drink on arrival. My room was always spotlessly clean with beautifully folded towels and clean bedlinen every 2 days. Most of the staff were the same as last year which says a lot for the owners, Dave and Janet. It was lovely to see Dave (Janet was away) sitting eating supper with all their staff just like a family which is what it is at Dave's. We guests are made to feel part of that family. They will organise dive courses, sunset and day boat trips and anything else you may want to do. The gardens surrounding the rooms have really grown up now and the coloured lights along the paths at night make it all look so romantic and magical. All the food is homemade. Don't be disappointed if Dave's is fully booked, as it often is. Plum Bath, UK December 17, 2008.

?Perfect place to stay.? On its website Dave's Straw Hat Inn says: "We don't make reservations, we make friends". Well, that's just about what they do in practice. The staff is friendly and helpful as can be, the cottages are comfortable and clean and they're surrounded by beautifully kept plants and trees.
Value for money is excellent. And it's Boracay, so what more can you want? Just one complaint. When our staying time there ended, we had the feeling that our departure time came much too soon; we should have stayed longer. But I don't think you can blame Dave's for that. Or can you? ?Dave?s Straw Hat Inn is a winner!? If theres something that made our holiday vacation in Boracay truly memorable our stay at Daves Straw Hat Inn is a winner! Other exclusive hotels may have a lot of expensive amenities to offer; Daves provided us just enough comfort ~~a quick getaway from the busy city life. When we arrived at Daves, we were greeted by their "world-class" attendants who went an extra mile (above and beyond our unique Filipino hospitality) and served us a thirst-quenching mango-iced tea~~ putting a personalized touch on how they welcome their guests. Kevin felt at home and relaxed all throughout. Its location is perfect for an intimate conversation at night and an opportunity to walk by the shore on your way to the islands night spots. We enjoyed waking up in the morning with a cup of brewed coffee while reading a book or surfing the net. Their breakfast omelette is a must try! What strucked me was when we checked out, I saw a sign saying "Khaki and Kev are leaving" with a L face. Then, we made a promise we shall return! Loyalty is earned and you guys earned it well! ?Fantastic!!!? We really enjoyed our stay at "Daves Straw Hat Inn" and have already recommended it to several friends and our families. The rooms at your resort are nice! The location is great- only about a minute's walk to the beach and very quiet and peaceful. Still it is only a few minutes to the shops and the great night life. The cottages are just the right blend of modern and tropical. We Thank you for the personal touch which made our stay there extra special. We look forward to staying with you again!!!!!! Best regards, Marcus :-) Feb. 03,2009

"A pocket paradise" I booked through trip advisor. At first it told me no rooms available but when I contacted direct, there were. The communications were excellent. I also booked the airport transfer with Southwest through DSH. Despite the fact that the plane was diverted to Kalibo it was seamless. The Southwest boys are excellent. The room was spotless with quiet Aircon... how rare that is in PI! The shower was hot and cold.... another rarity! The bed was comfortable. I chose the rainy season... and it did! Despite this I had a great time. They had a big library of books, good wireless connection and DVD players and DVDs to hire. The food is good quality and good value. Though if I was asked to give one improvement I would like to see a bigger menu in the rainy season. Check the Mango tea... I took a ton home with me after trying it here. The situation is around 100 mtres up a chaming alley just away from the noise and hustle and bustle of the main front. It is an oasis of greenery lit by charming small lights... it really is enchanting. As to the staff..... they are wonderful. They smile, chat, smile and smile again... nothing is too much trouble. They have excellent contacts locally and you get preferential diving prices, free table and chairs on the front at Arwana hotel etc etc. They really do make the place an absolute pleasure to visit. I would thoroughly commend DSH to anyone wanting a lovely good value place to stay close to but not in the thick of a great beach resort. kelvin273 Stafford Jul 13, 2009

"The Best Place in Boracay" Well, I don't really know where to begin. I've been sent there by one of my best-friends who stays there every time. Dave Straw Hat Inn is much more than a place to stay, it's like staying at home in that piece of heaven that is Boracay, but in even better. Jenny, Julie, Jing, Jim and all the other members of the staff litterally SPOILED us. We were there for our wedding anniversary, and they've payed so much attention to us and treated us like family. They've been so kind, and you can feel that it wasn't faked. These guys and girls have big hearts. The rooms are quite comfortable, and the food is great. You MUST try the Chicken Adobo cooked by Jing or Jim, which is absolutely great. The location of the hotel is perfect since the wind doesn't get there. And it's a few steps away from the beach. If you want to go snorkeling or on a boat trip, I recommend you to ask the staff to book it for you. It's a better deal than anywhere else, and you know that you'll be in safe hands. We really liked it. The worse part of our stay was when we had to leave. We highly recommend anyone to go there. I honestly think that I don't have enough words to express how great this place is. GO THERE ! Kevinge Suwon Aug 3, 2009

"paradise service on the paradise island" I booked a standard cottage which was a good size. Had cable TV with a decent amout of channels, DVD for rent and a safe. The room was very clean and both the shower and bed were fine. Also the free WiFi was good. Service was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and informative about the island. The hotel is located on boat station 3 and just 10 mins walk to all the shops, nightlife etc and 2 mins walk to the beautiful White sands beach. Compared to other hotels on the island this is excellent value and can recommend to familes, couples and solos alike. thorhendrix Aug 7, 2009

"Wonderful staff, made me feel like I was staying with friends or familyWe found Dave's online while looking for a place to stay in Boracay, and decided to stay with them because of cost - it's cheap! (about 1100 pesos/night for the walk-in rate, air-con cottage). When we arrived, I was really happy, it was exactly what I wanted - a relaxed place with lush plant life enclosing you away from the neighbors, a chill outdoor patio/restaurant with a book-borrowing area (free) and couches. As far as the rooms go, they were basic but impeccably clean, and if you stay in a cottage you can sit on the porch. The location is great - just a short (really short) walk to the beach, close to cafes and convenience stores and a delicious Thai place. It is near the end of the beach though, so if you don't like walking you might want to stay closer to Boat Station 2 or 1, but the beach is much less crowded near Dave's. What really made the stay special, though, is the staff. Out of every hotel/hostel/resort I've been to in almost twenty countries, I've never encountered an entire staff that was so honestly nice and friendly. Good service is always appreciated, but at Dave's they made me feel like I was staying with friends. By the second day we were all on first-name basis, and when I left I got a little sad to say goodbye to them. So, if you're looking for a laid-back place to stay in Boracay where the staff is great and amazingly warm-hearted, definitely stay at Dave's. Did I mention the staff rocked? Seriously, this place is cool.

 "Perfect Island getaway" Dave's Straw Hat Inn is a perfect Island getaway, and your treated like you are in a 5star hotel,the staff is WONDERFUL, and they really make you feel at home. Our cottage was cleaned daily ,shower had HOT and cold water(a rarity in the philippines) room came standard with air conditioning and ceiling fan, refridgerator, In room safe, and free Wi-Fi. The Inn is quaint and cozy, a real tropical paradise.Court yard is so well maintained and beautiful,the pathway is lit up at night,and its just a warm cozy atmosphere,less than 2 minutes walk from the beach,the Inn is peaceful and quiet, but close walking distance to the action on white beach at boat station 2. The staff will give you pointers and money saving tips for getting around the island and activities.Guests at dave's also get discounts at Blue Mango resturant and Island Hopping tours and Diving trips. The Island hopping tour by Alan B Fun was fantastic,and discounted thru Dave's Straw Hat. The food and drinks here are priced right and delicious,our favorites were the Mango Iced Tea and for breakfast the Mango/Bananna Pancake is enough to feed 2 hungry adults. I will never stay at any other hotel/resort on future trips to Bora. We originally booked 5 nights,then extended 5 more nights we loved it there so much. If you want a great sailing experiance walk down to the beach and find the" SEA MONSTER " boat, operated by Francis and Johnathon....these guys are the friendliest and most honest on the Island, really nice guys, our sunset sail was the most memorable part of our vacation. karmadog777 florida, Oct 5, 2009

“You Cannot Go Wrong With Daves Straw Hat Inn”  I am a girl who likes to be comfortable when I travel. My partner and I stayed at Daves Straw Hat Inn after reading about it on this website. We couldn't believe the incredible rates and had a hard time believing we were going to get quality for the price. We were wrong! When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly hotel staff. One of the staff came and carried my bag for me which was such a huge help because my wheely bag had broken and I was basically dragging a 20kg suitcase through sand! We were given a welcome drink and shown to our room. The room was impeccably clean and nicely designed. We went during the rainy season so sometimes had to stay in, the rooms were perfect for just relaxing and watching tv. There are a lot of stray cats on Boracay island, if you see the stray cats outside of Daves Straw Hat Inn, please go to the local shop and buy some tuna for them. I know the locals see them as a pest but my boyfriend and I fed them everyday because they were so incredibly skinny. We even found a cupboard full of kittens. Anyway back to the hotel..the staff are lovely. The room is very comfortable and great for the price. If you are looking for a 5 star top of the range hotel then Daves Straw Hat Inn isn't for you. It's for somebody who wants comfort and affordability on Boracay Island. It is located 15 minute walk away from white beach. To get to the main tourist strip you walk along the beach and can look at all the stalls selling gifts, beach dresses, pearls and other shell jewellery. I recommend going to the buffet on the beach. It's amazing! jadey00   Surfers Paradise, Australia Jan 3, 2010

“Perfect place” If you've read the reviews then you must have a pretty good idea of what this place is about. It's not a super resort by any means. It's also not a hostel either. This is a well put-together place that is very well-run. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they are particularly helpful with your booking. Their email correspondence is extremely fast. I stayed at three other hotels on the island and I couldn't get an email response from the hotel. The staff at Dave's Resort called them for me and then replied for the hotel and confirmed my reservation there. That's how nice these people are. We did 3 nights at Dave's. Every morning we had breakfast on our patio. We never tried lunch or dinner but if you are interested in eating Philippine food, I suggest you try out their kitchen. Unfortunately we didn't, but, we really regretted it. Getting good local food on Boracay could be difficult. I think Dave's kitchen would offer some good stuff to get your mouth watering. The room we stayed in was also nice. They had a security box a door that seemed to lock pretty well. The hotel is also gated in so there is no worries about your safety or getting things jacked. There is always some staff available what seemed to be 24 hours a day. We came back around 2 or 3am every night and there was always someone there to greet us. I have no qualms with this place at all. They were very welcoming when we arrived and very kind when we left. If I went back to Boracay, I would definitely stay at this place again. It's reasonable, convenient, friendly and clean. And the garden is pretty cool too.

“ Great Hotel with Excellent Service” We booked with high expectations from all the positive views, and those expectations were far exceeded. We had an incredible 2-week stay at Dave's; hotel is in good location (less than one minute walk to beach), rooms and grounds are kept very clean, STAFF IS INCREDIBLE, and great breakfast. All in all, we highly recommend this hotel. Jejama  Montreal Jan 17, 2010

“Great Location! Great Service!” Great location, sort of hidden but we ended up finding it okay. It is about a 2-3 minute walk from the beach, near Station 3. We arrived and were promptly checked into our cottage and received our complementary Mango Ice Teas which were pretty good especially after the journey from Manila. The room was a bit small but good. The room had pretty good A/C, a lockbox to put your valuables in and a pretty good shower with hot water. We had dinner and breakfast at Dave's and the food and service was excellent. I had the chicken adobo for dinner and an omelet for breakfast the next morning. Even the prices of the mini bar were reasonable at this place. Everyone always said "good morning", "good evening" ,etc with a smile. The next time I return to Boracay I will be sure to book at Dave's again. westcoastcyc Seattle Jan 24, 2010

Lovelythis place was very very nice, the rooms were spot less and the staff were lovely. Good location, and excellent transfer organsied by Dave's. We were alo greeted with mango ice tea upon arrival which was nice. The room was cleaned everyday and given fresh towels. The Bathroom air freshener could go though it was so strong i had to tie it up in a bag! An overall excellent place and i will recommend to others. Devonian10, Feb. 11, 2010

Very nice, clean, cool hut-style rooms - and affordableI stayed at 4 hotels on a recent trip to the Philippines, and this is my favorite one so far. Its a quick walk to the beach down a really cool pathway, and the rooms are very nice, very clean, has everything you need. I liked the safe in the room, very secure, and you can use your own lock on it if you bring one. The bathroom was nice and had plenty of hot water and water pressure. The rooms are built to look like tropical huts, but inside they are modern and have all the comforts of a more expensive hotel room. You even have your own deck/porch/balcony and it really reminds you that you are in paradise. But best of all was the service and response to emails. Janet and the staff make sure you are kept informed and respond to your emails almost instantly - try that with most hotels and you will get practically no response. Recommend highly to the budget minded travellers out there! bearrulez  Bagram, Afghanistan Feb 15, 2010

Home away from HomeMe and 2 of my friends spent fantastic February at Dave's on Boracay. Dave's is quiet and peaceful hidden gem nearby Station 3 away from Station 1's Discos and busy people. Hidden gem because it is not on the beach, 1 min walk from the beach. If you want to go to discos, Dave's is only 20 min walk from the Juice bar or Summer Place. Our group loved the hospitality and caretaking atmosphere of Dave's. Of course rooms could be bigger but weren't there to spend time inside, just for sleep in peaceful place. If something against must be said, Internet connection wasn't too good though I believe it wasn't cutting because of Dave's. As they say it is not The Best, but I totally agree their own words: Home away from home :) ManuFinland  Jyväskylä, Finland Feb 28, 2010

Excellent service + Incredible staff !! Definately a good pick to stay at Dave's Straw Hat! Everything is so organise from the transfer to check-out. Quick and personalised service by Dave's straw staff, they will be greeting you at all the times. Room is clean and well-maintained. Slightly away from the beach, however, just 2 minute walk to white sandy beach. Quick response to email & repond effectively to emails and enquiries. Highly recommended! Wonderful place to stay That was my first trip to Boracay and after spending over two weeks at Dave's I can say that our second trip is not far away! Everything went perfect, starting from the smooth transfer from Caticlan airport, warm greetings at the hotel followed up by the very special Mango ice tea, very quick and efficient check-in, clean and cosy rooms. Location to my mind is the best on the island. Close to boat station 3, a bit away from the crowds of tourists and noise, perfect if you are coming with the kids. you are literally alone on the wonderful beach. At the same time 15 minutes walk along the beach will bring you to the very center of the island with lots of shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel has not beach front location and that is the only drawback for me. But at the same time it takes you only 1 minute to get to the beach, so no big worries about that. What really makes Dave's special is the most wonderful staff ever met. They are all very very friendly and ready to help with anything. It's true when you say that it is not place but people that make your stay special. But when these two are coming together then it makes your stay unforgettable. Having come back home my daughter entered her room, sat on the sofa and started to cry. We asked her what had happened. The answer was - I just want to come back! Thank you, Dave's family, for being part of our family and we promise to be back soon! Andrei Minsk July 20, 2010

Hello to the staff of Daves Straw Hat Inn! We had a brilliant time at your place and felt well taken care of. All of us agreed that we enjoyed our stay at DSHI more than at the next place we went to. My husband and I went to Boracay as part of our 4-week honeymoon tour of Southeast Asia. We saw the great reviews of Dave's Straw Hat Inn, and didn't think we could go wrong. And we were right! The staff is so friendly and always went above and beyond. They even made us a chocolate cake on our last night to wish us congratulations and farewell. Hi Janet and the rest of the family!Thank you so much for your kind email. It was also our pleasure to having had the chance to stay in your beautiful surroundings and to meet such great people like yourselves. It was definitely a first class hospitality experience that shall never be forgot. I am working in the hospitality industry myself (for the big guys at Hyatt) and was delighted to find such a sanctuary in your establishment. I have already recommended you guys to everyone who cared to listen and Alex and myself are already looking forward to returning to Boracay next summer.
I hope this finds you well. Best wishes from Hong Kong, Dominic, September, 2010

Straw Hat Gang, Anna and I really enjoyed our stay.  We really appreciate all that you did to make it a wonderful vacation and a break from hectic day to day lives.  I am simply impressed by the entire crew -- everyone is always friendly, most helpful, and simply nice and good people.  I travel much for work and most of places I stay are so impersonal and cookie cutter hotels. This was simply a wonderful change of pace.  I am sure that I will be back. Warmest Wishes,

Luxury at It's Cheapest!OMG! A really affordable place in the heart of Bora. Stone-throw away to the shore!
We used to go to this other hotel with a higher rate, but through Trip Advisor. We decided to try this hotel out. The staff were nice, the rooms, although not "hotelish" is comfy. I have been to the Philippines 3x and I have stayed at some of the nicest hotels in the Philippines... from Hyatt and Diamond in Malate, Manila to Shangri La and Hilton on Mactan Island Cebu and Bohol Beach Club and Anyana on Panglao Island Bohol. I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars on hotel rooms in the Philippines. Sometimes over 100,000 pesos in one week. The best place to stay when you are on Boracay is Dave's Straw Hat Inn... and it won't cost you THOUSANDS of dollars.  It is quiet and secluded and the best deal you will find anywhere in the Phils. The service and the food are better than you will find at any 4 star $150+  a night hotel. I'm going back to Boracay this month and I won't even consider staying anywhere but Dave's...

Warm & Friendly Atmosphere with a good value for money..I heard about Dave from TripAdvisor and looking at the No-1 ranking and reading the reviews, i instantly decided to book @ Dave..I am glad that my decision was right.  Till the time i landed at Caticlan (Boracay) airport and i returned back to Caticlan, it was a pure pleasure..The Place, The People, The Atmosphere etc.. Dave had arranged for the pick and drop (at additional nominal cost) which i would definitely recommend to all, as there are multiple modes of transport involved to reach the resort.  I would definitely recommend Dave for the below reasons:- 1 - Value for Money 2 - Just 2 mins away from Beach 3 - Nice and Cosy rooms with a sit out place 4 - Ever smiling service from the Staff of Dave..I have never heard a NO as an answer. The staff is ever ready to help you in whatever ways they can. 5 - Nice food 6 - Good tie ups with Spa's , Restaurants & Water Sports for discounts in the range of 10 - 25%. Thank you Jenny, Janet & the Team for making my stay a memorable experience..

Friendly atmosphere, and a helpful staff who take excellent care of the Inn!The staff at Dave's assisted us before and after our arrival with everything including the airport transfers. We were traveling with an infant so this was very helpful. The the deluxe rooms are nice with ac, fan, cable tv, pull out bed (which was perfect for the little one as not far from the ground), fridge and a cozy dining spot outside our door. It is a short walk to the beach through a friendly alley way. Station 3 is much quieter then the other locations on the beach but with plenty to offer as for food/drink. The beach from near Dave's is beautiful with plenty of spots to park for the day! merle Shekou   December 22, 2010

“Fantastic value for the money - we will stay here again!” My wife and I stayed there from 27Feb2011 through 3Mar2011 and this hotel exceeded all expectations. After researching hotel accommodations for 3 weeks via the internet and asking several Filipino co-workers, we decided to arrive without reservations and go directly to Dave's Straw Hat. The plan was to stay 1 night, based on TripAdvisor's #1 rating, and check-out the island and see what was available. Upon arrival, it was raining and after seeing the smallest, and only room available, we decided to stay at Dave's. We moved to a larger room after the first night and we just loved the charm of this wonderful place. The winding alley at first was a bit concerning but all the local people we ran into were extremely friendly and welcoming during the 1 minute walk from the beach to the hotel. We always felt very very safe and the location was perfect. The staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant. I have no idea why the earlier post from "ridgey10" thought the staff's greetings were "well rehearsed" because we experienced everyone on the island greeting us with a warm "hello sir" and "good afternoon" including all the staff at Dave's. The rooms were comfortable, extremely clean, and we enjoyed the extras of a light Citronella candle on the outside table in the evenings. The location was about 75 yards from Boat Station 3 and was just perfect. I was advised to stay at Station 1 but after exploring all of Boracay's "white beach" we realized station 3 was perfect for us. At the entrance to the path to the hotel is Shantal's bar which provided chairs, drinks, and food on the beach with a wonderful staff as well. “Fantastic place to stay”Dave's Straw Hat Inn is THE PLACE to stay at when you make a trip to Boracay. Even if Boracay is very touristic, you will find a quiet place to sleep and enjoy your stay. Dave's Hat Inn is a little piece of paradise on earth, the staff is so friendly and is always ready to help you with advise. By this way we also want to thank Janet and Dave who treat us really like a part of their family, for this thank you very much. We assure you that we will see us again very soon. Keep on doing the good work. Congratulations.

Hello ! I can assure you we had a great stay at your place. Nice rooms and a quiet spot away from the crowds at the beach. But most importent a very nice and helpful staff doing everything they can to make us guests feel at home and allways with a smile on their face!! Unfortunately I have a confession to make. I (Torgny) sadly forgot to leave some tip for the cleaning of our room (no 6). I am very sorry for that. We are very pleased with the cleaning and everything. So again I am very sorry to have forgotten this. About the trip and everything it worked perfectly! And we can, and will, absolutely recommend anyone who goes to Boracay to check with Dave´s Straw Hat Inn before anything else.
Thanks an best regards Torgny and Marie May, 2011

“great inn to enjoy with friends and familily,really like a home”I was recommended by LP,when I arrived,I was surprised by the feel of the inn.I like the the lobby with full books,I like the plants surrounding the houses.Everybody is friendly and smiling............4 days are too short for us to stay in Dave's straw hat inn,I believe we will go back in future and will definitely recommend to our friends. “No hesitation in recommending”We enjoyed our stay, the rooms are very nice and clean, the landscaping of the grounds is very attractive, the staff attentive, friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again and recommend the place to our friends.

“Reliable value and service” Guided by porter from Caticlan airport one finds Dave's via a short (1min) laneway detour off the main strip at the quieter end of White Beach, approx 15min walk from the main action of D'Mall. While it's a little away from the action the location is far preferable for swimming away from the crowds, and while Dave's is not beachfront we were thrilled with complimentary use of the cabanas of the nearby bluemango. Rooms and amenities are basic but clean (serviced daily) with varied and cheap menu options (the banana pancake is everything its cracked up to be). Service is excellent, friendly, informative and efficient from the moment you book/walk-in to the memento snap they will email you trusting you made it home safely. A no frills but absolute quality and value place to base yourself in Boracay.

“Absolutely fabulous!”From the time we were picked up at Caticlan airport to being dropped back there 6 days later, everything (except Typhoon Falcon) was perfect thanks mainly to the staff at Dave's Straw Hat. They welcomed us with huge smiles which seemed to be permanently fixed on their faces no matter what time of the day or night. They were also so helpful in recommending places to eat and things to do and helped us organise everything we wanted to do. Whilst it wasn't a beach fronted five-star hotel, the friendly and personal treatment we got whilst staying at Dave's was a far better option.lara crof Seoul, South June 26, 2011

“The quiet side of White Beach” Dave's lived up to its rave reviews during our week long stay. The staff is tip-top. Nice, comfortable rooms & the verandha surrounded by gardens was perfect for utilizing the free wifi. . Very quiet @ nite, making for uninterrupted sleeps. We enjoyed an awesome breakfast of pancakes & burritos our last day but can't comment on the rest of the menu as we chose to eat outside every nite. The beach is less than 2mins away & it's a pleasant walk towards Stations 1 & 2 with heaps of great restaurants/bars along the way.  November 5, 2011

“Great value”5 of 5 stars My wife and I had a great time at Daves mainly due to the friendly and knowledgable staff. Other guests were very friendly and the place relaxed us all. Reviews were spot on about the lovely pancakes. Cannot wait til the next time. November 13, 2011

“Wonderful place to stay on Boracay”  From the moment we arrived at Dave's Straw Hat Inn we were made to feel so welcome! I've never stayed anywhere where the staff are so friendly and smiley and seem to genuinely appreciate you being there! We felt at home from the beginning! Dave's is no more than a 2 minute walk to the beach and is on Boat Station 3 so the location is fantastic. The food is incredible - Try Janet's Burritos they are declicious! I also had the pancakes for breakfast and I have never seen such a big portion in my life! Try if you are hungry, they are a must but you won't be able to eat for the rest of the day! The staff also found out that it was our honeymoon and surprised us by baking us a delicious chocolate cake - we were so touched! Even before we arrived, Janet was extremely helpful in assisting us with our travel queries and nothing was too much trouble (and I asked a lot of questions!!). I really can't recommend Dave's Straw Hat Inn highly enough, our stay there was the highlight of our trip and for the price per night it is incredible value on Boracay. My only complaint was we couldn't stay longer as they were fully booked - we really didn't want to leave! Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so memorable!  Michellevenn February 28, 2012

“My Favorite Place to Stay” 5 of 5 starsDave's Straw Hat has been the best place I've ever stayed on any vacation. Suffice it to say, the staff is the friendliest and most accommodating. The location is perfect. *When* I go back (Boracay is amazing), I will stay nowhere else besides Dave's Straw Hat. Thanks to the wonderful staff for making our trip my best vacation ever. “Most pleasant Inn on Boracay”  After comparing a lot of different resorts and hotels we decided to go for Dave's Straw Hat Inn, as we wanted something not too fancy but still good. We have to say this Inn surpassed our expectations by far. The rooms are nice and clean, with a very good value for money. So far so good, but the Service of the Hotel staff was just terrific. No matter what kind of question or time, we were helped in a very friendly manner. You can feel that the team is caring about their customers and this is providing you with a very intimate and homely feeling. The drinks and food (especially the fruit pancakes and Mango Ice Tea) are fantastic and not too expensive. The hotel is located a short two minute walk to the less-crowded and therefore nicer part of White Beach, but bars and restaurants are in close distance, easily doable by foot, as well. We definitely loved our stay with Dave's Straw Hat Inn. Dylanvw March 21, 2012

“Stay with the Dave's Straw Hat gang !!” My Fiance and I stayed with Dave's Straw hat in Feb. 2012..The staff there is great. They would try and answer any questions that you may have and when they don't know the answer they will try and find it for you. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. Every day your greeted with smiles and positive attitudes at all times of the day. The staff really made a difference in providing a higher level of customer service. Thank you for helping make our vacation memoral...
Hope to see you again.. JR March 21, 2012

“Pleasant stay at Dave's Straw Hat Inn” I stayed at Dave's Straw Hat Inn on 27th May in their 1 person hut. I was hoping to stay for two nights but it was occupied. The hut was small but it was enough for my needs. There was a big powerful fan which helped. The bathroom was tiny but good water pressure. There was free WiFi which was nice. The location is quite far down at the lower end of White Beach. But I liked the place and the staff was lovely.Ask P-on-TravelTheWorld June 3, 2012

“Most friendly staff and best atmosphere in the Philippines!”I stayed here on my honeymoon with a group of friends for some post wedding festivities in Boracay. With all the great reviews, you can't help but expect really great service - but seriously it went way beyond our expectations!! We were welcomed with a mango iced tea and shown to our rooms which were clean and comfortable. One of the things that I loved most about this place was the fact that the staff took the time to learn our names. And most in are group I think. Not bad considering there were about a dozen of us! What touched me most was, however, the real family vibe this place had. One morning we were watching our wedding video with our friends over breakfast (awesome and huge breakfasts, I got the Tapsilog every morning!). The staff saw the video and came to know that my new husband and I were on a honeymoon with our friends (from different countries all over the world). Then later in the afternoon they came back with a cake to congratulate us, for all of us to share. It was so heartfelt and completely unexpected. Absolutely no hesitation to recommend Dave's Straw Hat Inn - especially if you want to feel part of a family and not just another passer through. Thank you so much for making our honeymoon memorable. I will always remember the staff's kindness and well wishes. Thank you so much! P.S The dog (i think his name was freckles) is super friendly and a great mascot for the establishment!! :-) xxx LizzyWizzy007 June 10, 2012

  =================================================                                                                       “Great place to relax”  Like many other reviewers, I was impressed by the friendly service, attention to detail and clean room. The staff are universally helpful. I can endorse the praise for the mango iced tea - delicious. It is at the quiet end of the beach, but the beach isn't that long! I was happy to turn left at the beach to go even quieter - the beach was good and there were a couple of nice bar/restaurants. I would recommend getting the hotel to organise transfers -takes the hassle out of the trip! I hope to return next year MBLondonUK, June 25, 2012

“My first Boracay Experience”  Dave's Straw Hat lives up to the expectations of a fabulous vacation experience. We stayed in Deluxe rooms #1 & #3, both mirror images of each other. Very large, comfortable beds & more than adequate bathrooms with large showers, air-con & small patio. Not suites but very comfortable. Not directly on the beach but very close. Thats what I wanted as I didn't want disco beat in the middle of the night. As it turns out, if you want disco, go to Boat Station 1 area. Dave's is in Station 3 area. Beach unbeatable. Dave's staff treat you as if they've known you always. Definately recommended & I will stay there again. swanderman Iloilo City, Philippines March 03, 2013

“My Dave's Straw Hat Inn Family” Now I know what the fuss is all about this place. Dave's Straw Hat treats you like family. I really appreciate how thoughtful and friendly these people are. As soon as we arrived, we felt the warmth and coziness of the place. Check-in was fast and easy so we were immediately ushered to our room which contains basic amenities (tv, air conditioner, safety deposit box, fan, hot and cold shower, closet). We took the Small Standard Room which is located up a staircase and has a small veranda where we ate our breakfast. Our room accommodates a maximum of 2 guests by the way. When it's time for our 2nd breakfast, the kitchen was closed due to a health inspection that will be conducted therefore I wasn't able to taste their famous pancake. No worries though, it just gave me another reason to come back. I also love the collection of books they have which you can borrow. The inn is just a 2-minute walk away from the beach although I must warn you that it's quite complex to get there unless you know the way. When we were about to leave, the staff took a picture with us. I was surprised when I opened my inbox and found their email containing the picture with a warm message. I will definitely head back to this place soon. supersionx  Manila, Philippines

“La Familia at Dave's Straw Hat Inn”

5 of 5 starsThis was my first trip to Boracay Island with my partner and 8 month old daughter and Dave's Straw Hat Inn was recommended by a family member who had previously stayed there. We had heard great things and were not let down not one bit. It's such a great place to find, slightly but perfectly hidden away through a back passage off the beach giving the feeling you actually live there as you stroll past a few little side shops and local homes with leafy vines and trees shading the way to the front entry gates. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and always enjoyed seeing our baby Poppi. They really treat you like family there and we have certainly made great friends for life. We stayed in Room #1 and were quite happy with the size and overall layout. The bathroom was very clean and spacious, very happy here.
The Food was awesome, quite enjoyed their famous pancakes and BBQ chicken omelet. Its only a couple a minutes walk to the beachfront but I did not mind this at all. I cannot wait to come back again, HIGHLY recommended to everyone!

“Cracking friendly place close to a very chilled out beach.” Dave's Straw Hat is located about 3 minutes walk from boat station 3 and is the perfect place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of Boracay beach. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable with excellent aircon. Staff are very friendly whilst the rows of books and reasonable menu means you can relax here if you don't want to chill on the beach nearby. The free use of sun lotion is a nice touch! Def worth staying at if you want a nice place close to a less hectic beach area. Jeem27HK, April 17, 2013

“Homely.”We didn't have a place booked when we came to Boracay and ended up staying in Daves straw hat based on all the positive reviews we saw on tripadvisor. Turned out the reviews were not for nothing. Cosy, amazing staff and exceptional value for money. Some friends were staying in a different place nearby but we all always ended up hanging around in our place. Highly recommended

“nice rooms and friendly stuff”I can fully recommend Dave's Straw Hat Inn. The rooms are clean and decorated like a 3 star hotel.The staff is very friendly and will help further and in a good mood. Dave's Straw Hat Inn is a little hard to find. A large sign on the beach side would be great. The beach is calm and very nice. (much better than on station 2)
So, if you are going to Boracay, there is no point not to check in there.

If your looking for a clean lovely place to stay on the island and want to feel like part of a family then this is the place to stay. Cannot fault this place in anyway it is so lovely and all of the staff are the best from the welcome drink on arrival to any information you want to know about the island to leaving. We stayed for 4 nights and from the moment arriving until we left we felt like family. After leaving to stay somewhere else for 8 nights we came back to visit for a drink and I told them it was my partners birthday and they went out of there way and made a cake and set a table up with ballons to make his day extra special. You won't be disappointed with this place Thank you so much I will defiantly return to your place and tell all of my friends. Miss you :( APRIL, 2015 Philomena123

“Best Affordable Hotel on the Island”
The hotel was a bit hard to find, but once found was an excellent stay. The rooms where very clean, and well equipped. Staff was super friendly and very helpful. Location is great if you're looking for a relaxing trip; it's a ways away from station 2/1 and the party scene. The beachfront is low-key and relaxing.

“Perfection”
We stayed here for 2 nights in April and wish we had stayed for longer. We had free wifi in our room, the rooms had everything we needed and were cleaned each day. We loved sitting on the balcony outside in the evening. The hotel is right by the beach, literally a one minute walk but it's also in station 3 which means you can actually get a good night sleep without the noise from stations 1/2. Would definitely stay again. The staff were great and really helpful, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay.

“Best stay in Boracay ”
We stayed here for 6 nights and had the best time. Such a lovely welcome from the friendly staff. We were even given an iced lemon tea welcome drink which was delicious. Our room was cleaned immaculately each morning. Comfy bed and hot water and spacious rooms with great natural lighting. We will miss this place :( The location is 30 second walk to beautiful beach. Would 100% recommend this place and we will definitely be returning one day. Thank you to all of the amazing, friendly and ever so helpful staff at Daves straw hat inn

“Stop looking and stay here!”
Value for money is outstanding. Staff are amazingly helpful.
Breakfast options are quite decent or it's just a quick walk to Sunny Side Cafe, our favourite for breakfast.
Get an aircon room, it's a pleasant jump up from a fan room and worth it.
At Dave's In Station 3 you're away from the shoulder to shoulder jostling of Station 2. We would often catch tricycle rides back to station 3 for about 10peso (so cheap!)
We arranged transfers to and from the airports through Southwest Tours, so easy and Hassle free. They wait for the last flight to arrive even though we were over 2hrs late! Book online or on board with cash on your Air Asia flight.
We just wandered down to the "fancy" hotels and bought a drink or food and used their pools and sun loungers, they didn't mind. Just stay at Dave's! You won't regret it!

SO GOOD I STAYED 5 WEEKS
So good I stayed 5 weeks
This hotel is so clean, courteous and well positioned.
I believe it is positioned on the best part of the beach as it's calm here and the majority of people are Filipinos. Wherever you go around here people want to be friends...... that's cool.
The hotel has great wifi, hot and cold water , great breakfast options incl porridge and whole grain bread which USA treat.
The staff cannot do enough to help. They are funny and sweet.
Well done everyone
